I have no idea what to get.
He would play ps4 all day if I let him(I dont!)so would like to get something non screen based but I have no idea what. He doesnt really have any hobbies, isnt into football or anything.
I usually get a few annuals Guinness book, Ripley's etc. He has loads of hoodies and doesnt really care about clothes.
I'm really stuck and I'd like to be organised this year, anything that has gone down well in the past for your teens??

The ps5 will be released in time for Christmas?

Joking aside I have a ds the same age and it's really hard. His hobbies are gaming and sports and realistically you are limited to how much you can buy for either.

We have started to go down the route of experiences which seems to work well.

Plus a bit of cash then a few presents. I try not to buy tat that ends up in the bin. He has some speed Rubik's cubes he likes doing. I order weird US or Japanese snacks - sometimes he's mentioned things he's seen on you tube like the sourest sweets in the world etc

He never asks for anything either and isn't fussed by branded clothes.

CherrytreeView · 10/07/2020 10:17

We focus on experiences too - DD's birthdays are near to Xmas and they typically get clothes and other bits for their birthdays. So it's hard when it comes to Xmas presents. We've done concerts, but also Zorbing, Segwaying - you can even do junior driving experiences which could be fun!

My foster son, 14, loves several sports last year we bought him a set of golf clubs and 6 golf 1-1 lessons. He loves playing golf now. He plays cricket and new kit is expensive with a good quality bat being in region of £150. He had that year before last and new leg guards. He plays chess online and has laptop and iPad for schooleotk and YouTube but we do not allow gaming. Could you introduce him to Sport, Art or Drama?

anothermansmother · 10/07/2020 11:52

My ds is the same, I'm going to get him a PS5 for Christmas. He does lots of sports too but he already has most of the kit. He has a birthday in October so that's usually games but not this year, as I'm looking into an experience of som kind or taking him away for the weekend. He also loves the gym so if need be I'd buy him some personal training sessions.

Drone
Chemistry set
Roller blades
Dart board
Lego Architecture
Robot arm kit shop.sciencemuseum.org.uk/products/build-your-own-robot-arm-kit

LazyDaisy10 · 10/07/2020 17:19

Thanks for your suggestions, a dart board is actually a good idea and he used to like lego so maybe some of the older sets would work.
I'm hoping to get another year out of not getting the ps5 if I canGrin
He has dyspraxia so art is out and most sports he struggles with although he does like cycling.
He can be quite geeky so maybe some science based gifts would be good too.

Turing tumble. But order it now before it sells out again.

treeeeemendous · 10/07/2020 17:22

Ds has a cycle thing on his bike - I bought it in Halfords and was quite cheap. It records his speed and distance and things.

Flynn999 · 10/07/2020 17:55

If he’s a bit geeky what about one of those kits where you build your own radio/gaming device?

Skinnydog · 10/07/2020 19:47

Lynx, hair gel, older face wash stuff
Ps games
Football flicker/goalie gloves/boots/ball
Basketball hoop/ball
Fave team bits Clothing/stationery/bedding etc
Go pro camera
Lego
Table top pool/fusbol/ping pong
Archery set
DVDs/cinema pass/iTunes voucher
Crystal growing set
Geode cracking set
Volcano set
Pjs/slippers/books
All stuff my slightly geeky/slightly sporty 12/13 year old son has asked for/had or I’ve bought. Try and think what he’s into and go with that mine supports lfc, interested in science, art, dinosaurs etc

Skinnydog · 10/07/2020 19:50

Thought of a few more
Sprocket & scrapbook
Small things like bakucans/fidget type toys
Scratch art
Bouncy ball craft kit thing
Sharpies
Branded bag/trainers etc helped mine feel a bit more grown up although he didn’t have much preference everyone else seems too

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 10/07/2020 19:50

Ds2 (will be 14 by christmas) wants Lego, lego and Lego. Hes collecting all the Harry Potter sets and wants the Stranger Things set too.

Ds1 (16) likes anything giraffe, unicorn or rubiks cube themed. Although he has asked for the Stranger Things Lego set thing year.

CherryPieSky · 10/07/2020 19:58

I bought my 13 year old DS the following last year ...

Rubix cube - a speed one as he can solve the usual ones so wanted to do it on a timed app one

Butterfly knife (I needed to look into this as I wasn't familiar with the name and the word 'knife' made me go 'ummmm.' However turns out it's just a more grown up version of a fidget spinner! Anyway he often plays with it)

I put fifty quid in a money puzzle cube. He had to crack it to get the money out

Apple Watch

And then the usual bits and pieces!

Cherryrainbow · 10/07/2020 21:35

Money to spend on what he wants.

Gaming merchandise - primark etc tend to do ps4 and Xbox clothing and gifts near xmas. Funko pop figures tend to be a good stocking filler.

Cds/ DVD boxset.

mosscarpet · 22/07/2020 09:08

my 12 yr old ds really likes the lego architecture sets. He got the new york one last year and then got the lighting kit for it for his bday. Getting him another one this year I think. Other than thet he really loves art and is getting a graphics tablet. No clue on anything else though, as similar to your ds he isnt really into fottball or clothes etc..

hopeishere · 22/07/2020 10:16

Place marking for ideas.

Bananaman123 · 27/07/2020 12:04

The works had a day of the dead activity book that went down well with my nephew. Aftershave or body care set like superdry, good hat, scarf and glove set from superdry or usc, skincare, amazon echo or google play speaker, ck or tommy underwear

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 30/07/2020 02:11

So far I’ve got my DS an Apple Watch, Xbox voucher and couple of tracksuits.
