Best games for the switch?

I'm going to put money in with the grandparents to buy a switch for my son for xmas. Likely going to get a bundle including the mario or minecraft game.

With games costing a lot I plan to buy him 1 more game to go with it (He will be 7).

What games would you recommend? X

Animal crossing!

Mario kart
Sonic and Mario at the olympics
Minecraft
Are my 8yo's favourites!

Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
we've also had fun playing Bubble Bobble as a family but it's more nostalgia for me and DH.

I would wait & see nearer the time what's the current favourite. Ds 7 chose minecraft first, then Lego games then discovered mario. He has fallen in/out of all of them since then. Also depends what his friends are favouring at the time

Mumoblue · 18/06/2020 12:33

Definitely the above games.
Also I'm playing a fun little game called Moonlighter at the moment. You run a shop by day and go adventuring in a dungeon by night. It's a digital download game so it's only like 20quid.
Might be a little complex at first but the age rating is 7.

Our favourites are Minecraft, Mariokart and Animal crossing.

We don't have them anymore but the Lego games are always popular as well

Mario kart
Animal crossing is great- but maybe a little complex for a 7 yo
Super monkey ball is fun
Overcooked2 is great
Splatoon2 is fun, but mainly online play only.

Thanks guys! I think I will keep an eye out to see if any bargains crop up between now and xmas. I think he would like all the games suggested. He tends to like the platform type of stuff like sonic, mario, rayman etc. Lots of choices! X

I (36) love Animal Crossing but think it would be a bit too much of a slow burn for my nearly 8 year old Godson, even though he's very good at focusing, will build Lego technics models for hours etc. There's a lot of waiting for things to happen in 'real time'. I'd say if it comes with Mario then get Minecraft, or vice versa?

brianyslife · 21/06/2020 08:58

My little one also 8 loves
mario kart I think it's a good game for that age group

Update as we bought the switch the other day. As a bundle it came with luigis mansion 3. I also picked him up Mario kart 8 and yooka laylee and the impossible lair x

I second animal crossing my 8 year old is very happy with that game and it’s educational too as all the bugs and fish you catch are real life actual fish / bugs .
You have to look after your island and tidy up , check on residents , save money to make adaptions its a really nice game . No violence which is important to me also

He also has the animal friends I think it’s called where you can care for dogs and cats , play fetch etc . He likes that too
