Is it still Christmas with you?

Definitely is here! I've just had Christmas cake and coffee from my shiny new machine for breakfast with the tree twinkling away. This weekend we'll be catching up on Christmas TV we've missed, eating the rest of the Christmas food and having our Twelfth Night Party before we reluctantly pack everything away and DH goes back to work on Monday. It still feels very festive here!

So many of our neighbours have taken their decorations and lights down - the street that was so twinkly and pretty a few days ago looks so bare and dreary now, the spoilsports Xmas Sad. I leave lots of fairy lights up through January because I think the darkest part of the year needs them. And I leave some up all year, with extras at Easter which we 'do' like a mini-Christmas. Very much of the belief that Christmas is a season, not a day!

Feeling a tad griefy that it's coming to an end but looking forward to a last lovely weekend! How about you?

Our stuff was put back up the loft today. Still loads of sweets and other stuff hanging about

DelightfulBox · 04/01/2020 17:30

I am taking mine down as I write. I love my Christmas decorations so will be a bit sad to see them go, but slightly relieved this year as I have got a 5 month old kitten so it hasn’t been very relaxing 😂.

FluffyAragog · 04/01/2020 17:56

We usually take them down the day before the kids go back to school (so should be this Sunday) but I've broken my dominant wrist, feeling miserable and don't want to give up my tree and sparkly lights just yet so I think we'll keep them up for a little while longer. Plus I don't trust DH to package my glass baubles away properly Grin

pallisers · 04/01/2020 18:01

the tree will come down tomorrow. I leave the crib up so the wise men can arrive on Jan 6. I leave twinkly lights on the mantelpieces etc for most of January - it cheers me up.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 04/01/2020 18:24

Decorations came down New Year’s Day as it seems weird to me having them out in January. We only decorate after the 15th so they don’t stay up fo long.

Lots of Christmas treats left and we are enjoying the catch up tv and break. It’s my favourite holiday.

TimeforanotherChange · 04/01/2020 18:35

Still Christmas here! Tree still up and sparkling, log fire on and we are enjoying the last of the 'holidays'. DH is off on Monday when kids and I go back, so I'm thinking of asking him to take the tree and decorations down then.

I don't want to think about work, so am still in Christmas and relaxed mode! Intending to watch a film this evening.

MillieMoodle · 04/01/2020 18:58

Still Christmas here (just!). We will probably take everything down tomorrow as DH is itching to get the house back to normal and I've been back at work since 2nd Jan, so feel that things are almost back to normal. I love Christmas and think it's a shame it seems to end so soon, I'd much rather keep everything going until 12th night. Its difficult though with work etc. It's only a couple of weeks until my birthday, then our wedding anniversary, then DH's birthday so we've got lots to keep up going through the miserable months!

MinkowskisButterfly · 04/01/2020 19:25

Tree came down yesterday, decorations the day before. Toys aren't all put away but that will happen this week. Need one day of normal before school goes back.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 04/01/2020 19:35

Still Christmas here, and will be until 12th night. H and I have both been in and out of work over Christmas and NY, so it's really nice to have a few extra cosy evenings together with the lights glowing and a slice of Christmas cake. When I was driving home from work at about 7pm on NYE I was so very glad of the Christmas lights still up along the way.

FuckingHateRats · 04/01/2020 19:39

Tree gone, Lego been sent to various bedrooms, etc.

However I am sat on the sofa drinking Bailey's and watching Gavin and Stacey, so the spirit of Christmas is alive and well. The thought of returning to school on Tuesday is dreadful..

Lipz · 04/01/2020 19:43

All still up here. Will take them down on 12th night. Never before never after, enough bad luck as it is. I love the tree and decorations, hate when they are down. So glum and miserable. Most of the neighbour's have theirs down, estate is very dark. I hate the kids going back to school,, hate all that clock watching. Wish Christmas was longer it just goes by way too quickly.

Ambrose2 · 04/01/2020 19:48

Finished the last Toblerone. And the Christmas cake. The tree and decks are down but not boxed up properly. The school uniforms and bags are getting readied. It will be properly official once I've hoovered up the last of the tree needles tomorrow, and celebrated the house finally not being in holiday chaos with a celebratory baked Camembert topped with cranberry sauce with french bread once the kids are asleep at a reasonable time. Looking forward to getting back to normal, tbh. Enjoyed a pretty low key relaxed couple of weeks but this weekend everybody's crabby and just needs to get back into normal routine etc.

VioletCharlotte · 04/01/2020 19:51

I took the decorations down NYE so the house is still very much back to normal. I went back to work in the 2nd so it felt right to take them down then.

However, I still feel very much in Christmas relaxation mode. I've just eaten two mince pies while watching a film.

worcestersauce29 · 04/01/2020 20:02

Still full on Christmas here, sparkly lights and tree taking centre stage. Tomorrow I will begin the sad process of taking decorations down although this will not be finished until 12th night, as tradition dictates in my world x

hiredandsqueak · 04/01/2020 20:09

No tree has been down a week now. Sent the tubs of chocolates that weren't touched to my adult children's houses. Biscuits still unopened are likely to go the same way. Fed the leftover turkey and ham to the dog who is now back on dog food. For me Christmas finished soon after Boxing Day.

DelightfulBox · 04/01/2020 20:17

I am making progress here, both trees in their storage bags and almost everything in boxes - it’s a big job!

Corneliawildthing · 04/01/2020 20:18

Definitely not in my house. I love the anticipation in the run up to Christmas, but as soon as Christmas day is finished, I'd happily take the whole lot down.

BBInSleepsCounting · 04/01/2020 20:23

Still Christmas with us, yes. Tree, lights, decorations and cards still up. Still working our way through gifted and treat foods.

Ceara · 04/01/2020 20:28

Still Christmas here.

The tree comes down on Twelfth Night, never any earlier.

If you want to hang on to the twinkle and midwinter cheer, you can officially leave the decorations up until Candlemas Eve (Feb 1st) which was the pre-Victorian date to take the decs down :-)

dementedma · 04/01/2020 20:34

Took ours down today and it will go up in the attic tomorrow.
Have kept the fairy lights in the kitchen though

dancingthroughthedark · 04/01/2020 20:44

Last of the family headed back to Uni yesterday so decided it was time to put Xmas away today. Still lots of candles and lights around the room though and an awful lot of goodies will still be eating them at Easter!

Badtasteflump · 04/01/2020 22:22

We took them down today - I hate it though, everything looks so bare. I kept some fairy lights up to keep a bit of twinkleyness going.

Littleshortcake · 04/01/2020 22:27

I started taking them down after New Year's day i hate the clutter and wanted to clean properly. That said I left one tree up in the main room so it felt christmassy.

Today the place is tidy and trees and all gone. New rug brightens up the place and candles. Lots of candles. Left a nice tablecloth on the dining table for Sunday dinner tomorrow then will look back to normal by Monday morning. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

Bombaybunty · 04/01/2020 22:37

Christmas left today, firmly stashed away in the loft until December.

beingchampion · 04/01/2020 22:43

Drinking baileys, eating after eights, watching the great festive bake off surrounded by decorations and lots of lights. Still Christmas here.
