Did anyone else cook an alternative to roast this year?

We had steak and chips, preceded by a melon/Serrano ham starter and then a choice of puds. I made homemade chips, warmed a Sainsbury's bearnaise sauce and we had a big pile of green salad.

It was a revelation! I was nervous about deviating from roast but I won't go back. Quick to cook, a real treat, and no rosy cheeks/sweatiness from being in a hot kitchen for 2/3 hours. No hearing the kids play as I cooked.

Anyone else?

If it was just immediate family I would do this. My friend always does something similar. She even did a duck penang curry (teenage children) one year.
