Some of my favourite are card rather than board games.

Cards against humanity.

Exploding kittens

Bears v babies.

Catan

And I still love Cleudo

Banana grams.

Nutkin123 · 29/12/2019 17:07

We've just got 'would I lie to you' from TK Maxx and it's so good!!! Also seconded for cards against humanity, always a crowd pleaser. Those 'shout it out' games from M&S are good too (especially if you're competitive Hmm)

'Ticket to ride' is excellent. There are lots of different versions. The Europe and USA versions are good for first timers. Carcassone is also a nice game.
We also like 'Five Tribes' but that take a little longer to go through the rules.

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 29/12/2019 17:21

Mexican train dominoes - great once you get going!
Sushi Go Party
Pass the Bomb
Cobra Paw for something quick, easy and silly, or Zonkers
Mind the Gap - card game like uno
Camel Up

I play all of the above with teens and adults - all suitable from 8/9 and up I'd say.

Have fun - love a games night!

Another vote for cards against humanity
We also love....

Santa vs jesus

Whats that smell?

Monopoly

Scattergories

Jackstraws

Yahtzee

Rldx2 · 29/12/2019 17:36

Cards against humanity and articulate are my faves

Lc2006 · 29/12/2019 17:53

Gutter head is a bit of a cross between cards against humanity and pictionary with optional drinking rules

Helenluvsrob · 29/12/2019 17:54

We got azul. It’s great

AnythingConsidered · 29/12/2019 17:57

Obama Llama is a huge favourite in our social circle

BonjourMinou · 29/12/2019 18:00

Telestrations is hilarious

ElluesPichulobu · 29/12/2019 18:02

splendor is great - very easy to pick up. Carcassonne likewise.

imhotep, cavern tavern and photosynthesis are good fun with a little more rule-book reading needed.

if I was doing a NYE event I would do Terraforming Mars as a game will last 4 or 5 hours to take you up to midnight. but it needs all players to have quite a high geek rating.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 29/12/2019 18:59

Cards Against Humanity
Scattergories
Articulate
Risk
Debatable

Catan
Carcasonne
Geistes blitz- easy to take anywhere, easy to learn and brilliant fun!
Apples to Apples
Qwirkle
Ticket to ride
Perudo
Anomia

Crookshanks24 · 29/12/2019 23:12

Exploding kittens is great fun, and also 'fuck.the game' is fab!

TheRealTomTom · 30/12/2019 07:37

We played weird things humans search for, on Christmas Day.

If you've got a few people it is really fun. It can be as rude as you want it to be.

In terms of party games,
Code names
Just one
Decrypto
Disney pictopia was good. Our 3 year old could play but with one of us for the reading part. Essentially you just have to pick one of 4 pictures and he could do that without any issue.
These are good with teams.
Munchkin is a great game for 3 or more. It's quite complicated if you have never played anything like it but once you get the hang of it, it's really fun as you start the game helping each other but by then end you are trying to mess up everyone else.

From what everyone else has said,
Ticket to ride is like a great version of a traditional board game like monopoly.
Cards against humanity is ok. Replayability is limited unless you buy expansions.

Sushi go and sushi go party are great

Exploding kittens and bears Vs babies are great fun.

Dragons breath is a great game for younger kids, quick to learn, easy to set up.

Djchickpea · 30/12/2019 07:39

Just One. A bit like Articulate.

AnnoyingSatsumaInMyStocking · 30/12/2019 07:43

We played What Do You Meme with our 15+ years DC and friends. Pretty funny and a bit rude.

TheoneandObi · 30/12/2019 08:28

Articulate. Or Male your own. Everyone gets a pile of scraps of paper and writes objects, actions, people, places etc on them randomly, folds them and chucks them in a bowl. Bowl gets passed between teams with a timer and the team with the biggest pile of paper wins. You can then put them all back on the bowl and do a version of charades. It's really good - better than any bought game!
We call it Salad Bowl Charades

Stompythedinosaur · 30/12/2019 16:16

Codenames, Decrypto and Secret Hitler are my absolute favourites.
