Standard stuffing mix, will it keep uncooked in fridge?

I'm not going to be at all helpful to you because I've never made stuffing before but I would also like to know the answer because I'm prepping for tomorrow right now.

Are you making stuffing with meat?

homemadecommunistrussia · 24/12/2019 15:39

If you mean a packet mix, I have done this before, but I mix it with cold rather than hot water.

RacoonRocket · 24/12/2019 15:41

Yes it's packet mix, so cold water eh? I was going to roll I to balls then cook them tomorrow. Not eating with meat as its a vegetarian Xmas dinner!

Yes its absolutely fine so long as its covered and refrigerated overnight. I try to prep everything possible the night before to save time on the big day and have always done this. I would however use hot water as I've found cold water doesn't soak up as well and it can stay a bit crumbly and wet as opposed to soft. Just leave it to go room temp after balling then cover and pop in fridge

MrsGrindah · 24/12/2019 15:53

Of course..but be warned..if you make it with hot water and a generous knob of butter you may be tempted to eat it raw like I do Blush

Thanks for asking, I've been wondering this all day. Off to make mine now....!

RhymingRabbit3 · 24/12/2019 16:01

I wouldn't bother. It is literally a 2 minute job and if you're not sure about the results I wouldnt risk it.

ThoroughlyForumed · 24/12/2019 16:03

MrsGrindah Good point 🤣 (also I hope your name is a reference to People Just Do Nothing!)

Kanga83 · 24/12/2019 16:06

Yes absolutely fine- it keeps much better in balls rather than as a tray bake/all in a Pyrex.

MrsGrindah · 24/12/2019 16:11

It is indeed Thoroughly!

RacoonRocket · 24/12/2019 16:48

Thanks all, Merry Christmas!

Ah veggie should be fine, I do it cold so I can mix in some sausage meat for the non vegetarians in the house, then put it in a dish in the fridge.

FairyJuice · 24/12/2019 17:38

I make mine as normal (hot water, lump of butter) and then add it to a pan of onion, garlic and 400g chopped mushrooms that have been sauteed down. Stick it in a tray, let it cool while eating dollops of it as per previous poster and then cover and put it in the fridge overnight Grin
