My DS is 12 and has asked for hoodies for Christmas but I am concerned he will not have anything to do or play with on Christmas Day and not a lot to open. Usually I would buy him lego but he said no lego this year.
Please give me ideas on what I could give me to play with a bulk out out pile.

I had a similar problem and have ordered a groover board (30 odd quid online). Also some Bluetooth ear pods from TK Maxx.

Juggling balls??? Origami book??
Nerf gun??

Havana7 · 17/12/2019 06:20

I got my 12 year old a mini pack man game, PlayStation water bottle, onsie, hot chocolate set (he’s in to one every night at the min) All from the gift section on next and a basket ball game to go with his hoodies!

My 12 year old also doesn't play with Lego anymore. He's got a Rubik's cube, a stunt jojo and art stuff to unwrap along with the compulsory hoodie and Xbox game.

SleeplessinEastSussex · 17/12/2019 09:12

@ilovespinach - what is a stunt jojo - Googled it but cannot find anything x

Touchscreen gloves?

Legomadx2 · 17/12/2019 12:42

Books?

DonPablo · 17/12/2019 12:43

Contact juggling and other 'skills toys' like pen spinning and begleri have been popular here. And show me any 12 year old that doesn't love a nerf gun, even if they've already got one!

tassisssss · 17/12/2019 12:46

Not cheap but we rate Spikeball for indoor (if you have space, works in our hall) or outdoor fun.

Luckyleprechaun80 · 17/12/2019 14:28

How about a Smart Games IQ puzzle pro, small and portable and lots of puzzles to work through.

lexloofah · 17/12/2019 15:14

I know what you mean about nothing that will occupy on the day, maybe an Annual or Guinness/Ripley's type book?

Knex good, also kapla still gets played with, esp if we do it with him

balancing eagle or other fiddle, puzzle type thingy

minesagin37 · 17/12/2019 15:17

At 12 don't buy nerf guns or Lego! They want gadgets!

cryingcatmeme · 17/12/2019 15:54
  • Dungeons & Dragons Starter Game Kit - it's gaining in popularity too due to Stranger Things
  • Trainers
  • Gaming Headset (if he's a gamer)
  • Gaming Chair (if he's a gamer)
  • Bean Bag
  • Book Set Series
  • Art Supplies including Sketchbook
  • Basketball Hoop & Basketball
  • Magnetic Dart
  • Game Board
  • Puzzle
  • Hamper for chilling out after school - mug based on his interests, hot chocolate, popcorn, snacks, comfy blanket, drinks, and maybe add a film
  • Games (if he has a console)
  • Drone (there are cheap ones that are good quality)
  • Panini/Waffle Maker (if he likes cooking) w/ Cookbook, Apron, etc.

Our DD11 got a Gaming PC recently as an early xmas gift so he's getting a few small things to open and some money to go shopping to adidas outlet.

So far, I have...

Fortune cookies
Would you rather book
Rick and morty mug set
Lynx sets x 2
Tim peake book
Onesie

His stocking will have...

Rick and morty pin badge
Pickle rick plush
Cereal killer spoon and lucky charms
Choc orange
Nail clippers (he always borrows DHs)
Choc coins
Sweets

Considering a Gregg's and or Costa card as both are on way home from school

my ds 11 1/2 is getting:
brush markers and good quality sketchbook (he's very into art)
make your own lie detector kit
trivial pursuit big bang edition
amazon echo
light up globe (hes really into countires and geography at the minute)

and he is actually getting a lego set - its one of the architecture ones of new york so a bit more advances, plus hes obsessed with friends and all things new york currently!

Mintjulia · 19/12/2019 08:16

Wired bike computer? Gives them something to set up on Xmas afternoon and an excuse to go out for a ride on the one day the roads are fairly safe.

BrieAndChilli · 19/12/2019 08:24

Star Wars Death Star maze ball
Sketch pad and pens so he can draw maps
Trump cards as he likes politics
Nintendo 3ds game

UndertheCedartree · 19/12/2019 09:21

Console game, board game, card game, books, art supplies, dungeons and dragons.

I disagree! I think most 12 year olds will still be excited by nerf too.

My oldest is nearly 12 and he’s got a massive beasty Fortnite nerf machine gun, bullets and a tactical vest (as his only toy really mixed in with tech stuff/clothes etc).

On seeing the set, my serious, professional 36 year old dh’s reaction was ‘that’s cool as fuck!’ (and then immediately he started fiddling with it). I think maybe I should have bought him one 😂😂
