Easy canape ideas please

I am looking for some easy but yummy canape ideas please. I have googled, but lots are bits piled on a cracker (or similar).

Ideally I want to do about 5 types. All prepped in advance and either bunged in the oven or served cold.

My idea of a perfect canape is cheese on a stick, but am looking for things that look like I made more of an effort!

I used to work somewhere where we often had evening dos. The catering lady did celery cut into 3cm lengths with primula cheese spread squirted in, and a sprinkle of paprika. Can you still buy tubes of primula?

Not sure about tubes of primula, eggandonion but i guess a scoup of soft cheese would work?

I know I can buy ready prepared, but I need quite a bit and home made will be cheaper . Plus lots of bacon and cheese is good.

Lots of canape threads on MN. Really should have checked . Lots of things with peaches and figs, which I like the idea of. Do they need to be fresh or would tinned or dried work?

Slice a fairly skinny baguette (a ficcelle is ideal) into rounds (or on the diagonal a bit) about 15 mm thick, like thick toast. Toast them lightly under the grill on one side, then spread the other side liberally with Boursin cheese and top with a little grated cheese. You can freeze them at this point if you want or just store them in fridge on baking sheets until you need them later that day,

Put them back under a hot grill when you are ready to serve (straight from frozen if applicable) You can sprinkle with a little chopped parsley or chives if you want but they look good just as they are. Very cheap and delicious!

Cube some mozzarella (about 1cm cubes), dip into pesto, sandwich between two halves of a cherry tomato and stick onto a cocktail stick

Buy blinis and smoked salmon / cream cheese rounds and put them on a plate with lemon wedges

I always make these and they go down very well - it's good because you can make them and leave in fridge then just oven before you need them.

Puff pastry (shop bought)
Cut into smallish squares
Egg wash and put into Yorkshire pudding/cake tray
Add spoonful of cranberry / onion chutney / olive tapeade / something with a strong flavour
Then add brie/ camembert / little sausage / something like that
Close up like a parcel and egg wash over the top
Bake for 10/15 mins until golden brown.

I also make sweet ones with spiced apple mix and serve with dollap of cream

They are so so easy and really tasty!

Sliced baguette topped with sliced tomato, mozzarella and a basil leaf drizzled with olive oil. Cocktail sausages cooked then add honey and grain mustard. A nice wood board with sliced salami, parma ham. Nice houmos with carrot sticks and nice crisps.

Roll out sliced bread, line fairy cake tin.
Add chopped breakfast bits.
Cook till hot, add an egg to the top.
Cook till egg is done.
Serve hot.

Too much women's work. Just buy it and serve.

Best fig recipe ever is fresh ripe figs quartered withe sliced mozzarella, parma ham, rocket and a dressing of honey, lemon and dijon mustard.

Devils on Horseback - really easy and very gorgeous! Wrap a (stoned) prune in smoked streaky bacon, stick on a cocktail stick, and bake until the bacon is crispy. Tesco recipe here

Not sure why it's considered women's work. I enjoy it. I get to make (and eat) canapes. Dh peels all the veg.

BIWI I had those at a friends. Amazing things. Can't eat too many though (Easy to forget they're prunes!).

TBH most are a bloody fiddle to make, and often not worth the effort.
I usually buy ours from M&S.
I do sometimes make my very very cheesy cheese straws, though, which always vanish PDQ and are admittedly worth the faff of making them.

200g really good strong Cheddar, grated fine
100g SR flour
50g soft butter
1 tsp English mustard powder
A good pinch of cayenne pepper
1 tsp milk

First turn the oven on to 180, 160 fan and butter very well two non stick baking sheets.

Mix all ingredients very thoroughly, easiest with a mixer or processor.
Knead well. It will be crumbly, so best to roll out on a floured surface in sections, to roughly the thickness of a £2 piece, though it's not critical.

Mark with a flat bladed knife into strips about 1 cm wide.
Before lifting on to baking sheets - leaving a little space between them - I usually sprinkle with a very little extra cayenne pepper - optional.

Bake for 6-9 minutes (depending on oven) in the pre heated oven until golden brown. Do check after about 6 minutes since from experience these are all too easy to burn.

Slide on to a wire rack to cool.
If you can get self/family to resist them, they keep very well in a tin for a few days.
