Role play toy for boys

Ellieray · 12/12/2019 13:20

My nearly 6 yr old loves playing role play type games. He often plays babies with his sisters or with the toy kitchen.

For Xmas all he's asked for are bits and pieces that I know he won't bother with after Xmas day.

A few people have suggested the imaginext range of toys but he doesn't seem bothered about them at all.

I'm trying to find some kind of role play toy that will keep his interest but isn't too young for a 6 year old and different from the dolls and prams his sisters are getting!? Everything I can find is sort of aimed at around 2 years old!

Playmobil?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/12/2019 13:25

Or baking stuff? My 6yo (girl) loves helping to bake or pretending to bake.

play shop?

NannyR · 12/12/2019 13:26

Playmobil would be great.

Agree with Aroundtheworld, just get him his own set of proper utensils and a nice non-breakable mixing bowl.

pollyputthepastaon · 12/12/2019 15:19

Why not give him the dolls and pushchair and then get something different for his younger sister? Should be easy to find alternatives for her?

Spy kit went down a storm with my son at that age.
Also what about a play chemistry set with a lab coat and giggles etc.

sleepyhead · 12/12/2019 15:27

My 6 year old loves playing shops with a till and pretend cans etc.

e.g www.elc.co.uk/roleplay/play-food-and-shopping/Early-Learning-Centre-Cash-Register---Blue/p/540587 but you can get cheaper and pretty much as good in Tesco.

A garage.
Policeman/doctor/soldier etc dressing up outfits.

Melissa and Doug vet set

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/12/2019 18:13

Try shopkins. My 7 and 4 year old boys love these for role play. I got them a little supermarket, then a set of little tiny food each so they can play together.
They also both have fur real puppy/kitten and play vets with those. Dressing up stuff still goes down well for their role play.

EvilPea · 12/12/2019 18:18

Yes mine loved toy shops and proper cooking.

Bunnybigears · 12/12/2019 18:19

A work bench with drill, saw, hammer etc (plastic obvs).
Or even some balsa wood with tacks and a real (small) hammer.
A shop with a till
A Post Office
A pop up tent thing so he can play camping and take the dolls with him.

Thanks everyone, will definitely look into those ideas. I like the idea of a spy kit.

He already has baking stuff and we have so many dolls and buggies etc!

He's also got one small Playmobil set but might be worth trying again with some of that!

The Melissa and Doug spy kit was a huge hit in our house last year. Played with for months and inspired lots of coded messaging. Not an obvious role play choice but my kids loved it.

Make your own more grown up doctor's kit - real stethoscope and crepe bandages, big pack of plasters, syringes, box of tictacs for tablets. Ours is used regularly by both my 6yo and 8yo.
