DD went off to a party and came back raving about Vol au vents of all things.

Talk about throw me back 30 years! I’d like to make some for Christmas Eve just to make her laugh.

Apart from roast beef horseradish, corination chicken, egg mayo and prawns what fillings can you suggest so I can just serve these as dinner?

Garlic mushrooms.
Sour cream and caviar
Prawns in garlic butter/ Marie Rose sauce

Smoked salmon and cream cheese
Chicken tikka
Chargrilled peppers and olives
And that old 70's fave - mushrooms in Campbells condensed mushroom soup Grin

Mum love all of those ideas. DD loves garlic mushrooms and also prawns.

The others not so much, I might just buy sandwhich filler for their ones!

Aych reminds me of soggy bottoms when using Campbell’s with anything!

A true vol au vent needs a sauce of some kind though, doesn’t it?

Gammon and hm pickle sounds nice but a bit cleggy

Chopped up chicken and gammon mixed with Campbell's condensed chicken soup, delish!

What about pâté and cranberry or Brie and cranberry?

Although I’d be tempted to go a bit different and put cerviche in there or some chorizo with onion and cream cheese...

Anything with cranberries would be a winner!

Might need a practice run this weekend...

Aldi is currently selling Christmas tree shaped vol au vent cases...

Has to be tuna and seafood sauce with a little black pepper

I used to do this in the early 90's. Lots of cuttings of the Christmas smoked gammon in a tin of condensed Campbell's mushroom soup in a vol a vont topped with cheese. In a hot oven until it bubbled.

Really quick easy supper for the day after Boxing Day.
