I bought a few of the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley books from Ebay and made the budget up with 80s sweets the last time I had to do similar, and it went down well. If it's a woman in her 30s and she likes reading at all, there's a good chance she couldn't avoid those masterpieces, they were EVERYWHERE.

It's also a good option if you're trying to avoid/waste/tat/novelty gifts. The sweets will get eaten by someone over Christmas and the books can go back into the second-hand market.

Anything related to Gremlins, Ghostbusters or Back to the Future.

Sweat bands or a Mr Motivator DVD?

RubyRed24 · 09/12/2019 10:27

Hi thanks all. Since I made the post a few have said they have bought clothing.

For the man I've seen 80s rapper with inflatable boom box or a kind of Columbian Gangster outfit. We are all going to be indoors so no one will be offended. What do you think?

I’d get a t shirt along the lines of some of the PP’s suggestions. Fancy dress will be funny for 5 mins then chucked in a cupboard never to be seen again. T shirt might actually get worn.

RubyRed24 · 09/12/2019 10:32

I thought that and I really don't have money to waste.

All the others do have lots to spare and this is the way they want to go.

I was going to say Rubik’s Cube

BarkandCheese · 09/12/2019 10:41

I’d probably go for retro sweets, mugs or T-shirts because at least they’d be used, rather than novelty tat.

Having said that as someone whose entire teen years spanned the eighties a more authentic gift would be a Steven King book with the vintage cover, heather shimmer lipstick, blue mascara, anything body shop dewberry, leg warmers or one of the early Now! CDs.

Blue eyeshadow or mascara
Charles and Diana mug
Leg warmers
Blues brothers style shades
