Present for my mum

I've got my mum a handbag and a book for Christmas, but down here visiting then at the moment I'm thinking I've got her what I think she could do with rather than what she'd like, which would probably be a new pointing trowel or something to clear the gutters.

Should I nip out now and get something different? I think I'm trying to get her something to make up for a part of her that's not there (anything feminine or dressy at all) rather than something wholly practical.

On the other hand she might like the bag (if she was going to like a bag, she'd like this one).

Could you get her something practical in addition? I’m not at all dressy or ultra feminine and I would be very unlikely to buy myself a bag, but my DH has a knack of buying me bags that I absolutely adore and use daily. Maybe it is just the case that she doesn’t spend her money on herself to buy things like that, something more practical is always needed. I’m more likely to buy gardening stuff for example than I ever would a handbag if I buy myself anything at all.

I think I will do. I usually get her something for the garden, either plants or something useful, might post her some seeds or something. I did think, of nothing else she can use the bag for her trowels.
