Christmas presents for children at school

A school near me have put out a plea for food items and toys for children aged 3-11 because they are in a very poor area, a lot of their kids will get very little or nothing at Christmas, and they're trying to ease things for them a little.
The school already run a club to keep the kids occupied at a loss, are part of a food redistribution group etc, but unfortunately it's really not enough. Too many kids are suffering.

Now, I myself am on Universal Credit, don't have a lot of money spare, but I cannot do nothing knowing that there's kids out there going through this.

SO... what sort of toys etc would children these ages like? I've got food covered, but as my kids are not this old yet I have no idea of what to get. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Book people have loads of box sets that if they get broken down can be less than £1 a book.

Craft kits- or make your own with paint, paper, glue, brushes etc

Board games
Books
Cuddly toys
Lego
Craft stuff
Nice stationery, felt tip pens, sketch pads etc

Thank you! I'm going into town and shopping over the next two days. Craft kits are a good call! I'll also check out the book people thank you!

Poundland have lots of good quality puzzle and sticker books. Will help your money go further.
I always try to think of something for the older boys as I understand this is the age group with fewest donations. Yo-yos, playing cards, dominos probably all available from Poundland. Bless you for thinking of others when you are not so well off yourself. Could you help publicise the need for donations e.g. If you are on Facebook, neighbours, etc so that you are helping but not spending lots of your own money?

Have a look in the £1 shop. Ours currently has little sand art kids, stamping sets and Hotwheels cars.

I've got 2 Poundland shops near me so will check them both out.

It's been publicized on FB, so I know others are helping. It's just the ideas I'm struggling for!

Do you have a Home Bargains in your area? They have some fantastic toys in, often ex stock with significant discount off the RRP. Definitely worth a look.

The card factory do some nice teddies / soft dollies for about £3

OneTooManyBathtimes · 09/12/2019 15:49

Thank you! So today I went out and got some things: books, colouring books and pens, some musical instruments, teddies, yo-yos, board games... a few more things but yeah...
I'm looking forward to dropping them off along with some food as well tomorrow hopefully. If not tomorrow then Wednesday.

It's also given me an insight into things to get for my children in a few year's time.

DH and I have both said that we'd love to help out more when we're on our feet. Hopefully that'll be next year and onwards.
