Slightly belatedly, we've just decided to get the DC some sort of gaming device this Christmas. We had been planning on holding out for another 12 months until the new PlayStation & Xbox are launched but circumstances mean getting it this year would be better.
Which do we go for? It will be used primarily by our 10yo & 7yo. The only thing they have previously had access to is a Wii (and tablets). They like football games & Mario Kart type stuff.

Switch !

I'd get the Switch, for a 7 year old the games are too old on PS/XBox.

The Switch has Mario Kart, could you also look at Mario Odyssey, new Pokemon Sword/Shield game, Luigi's Mansion. Not all of them, just some ideas they may like!

I think it really depends what they like but for kids I think it's more between switch or PlayStation.

Switch is great for classic nintendo - zelda, mario, Pokemon etc. Plus it's a fairly new console so it'll have more releases atm. Plus you have play it on screen or portable so handy for journeys or trips away.

PlayStation is great for more fighting / sports games. My son is 6 but likes playing sonic, little big planet, crash bandicoot etc So he enjoys the ps4. I have seen a lot of different racing and football games for ps.

Switch , for sure.

Definitely the Switch! Although we do have a PlayStation too, my older son prefers that but he’s 13.

We have switches and PS4s. Switch for younger kids, PS4 for 12+

TBH there fewer and fewer games that you cant play on all of them. All can play fortnite, fifa etc. PS4 has more 12/15/18+ fighting/shooting games like COD and spiderman and starwars battlefront. Switch has all the amazing nintendo ones like all the Mario and Zelda ones (Zelda breath of the wild has been voted best game ever for the last couple of years) plus the multi player party games etc

Id get a switch as better for their ages and more versatile, van play on long journeys, on the TV or handheld in the house if someone else wants the screen.

Switch is better for younger kids
Lots of PS4 titles are 16+

Fishlegs · 08/12/2019 21:36

My 13 year old agrees and says the switch is more family friendly.
