Pokemon sword or Pokemon shield? Does anyone know the difference? Which one might be best for ds's 9 and 7?

They're the same game, just with a few slightly different Pokémon. Basically the idea is to eventually trade with someone who has the other game so you can swap the Pokémon each game doesn't have. If you're buying two, then it's good to buy one if each but if you're just buying one it doesn't really matter.

Yes just a few Pokemon are different. We chose the red one (shield) as it's my sons favourite colour, he doesn't like blue!

They have a different legendary pokemon in each too. Dd and her boyfriend have 1 game each and they trade pokemon with each other

I'd say maybe go with sword for the boys. Sword has a cool fighting bird and shield has a pretty pink and green pony exclusive. But he may never come accross them anyway.

But as she wasn't given any merchandise, I too am having this quandary. I've gone for the switch rather than switch lite, but need a good game. One that will keep the mind active.

Sorry I don't know how to highlights posts but No no no I hate posts like these! My dd's prefer the cool fighting birds. They hate pink and unicorns and pretty stuff. They hate the fact people think they'd rather have pretty over cool.

As is said above, in most areas it is the same game but there are version exclusive Pokémon that can then be traded between the two games providing there are two consoles. However there are also changes to gameplay elements such as a few different gym leaders (sword gets a fighting and rock type gym whereas shield gets ghost and ice).

Like you've said though, if you're getting one of each then I'd just let them decide which one they want, either way they won't be disappointed :)!

I've almost finished it (got it for my 34th birthday two weeks ago ).

It's a brilliant game, but I am, and always have been, a huge pokefan!

Oh and I have sword, just cause I think swords are cooler 🤷🏻‍♀️

They always bring out two versions. It's the same game just a few different Pokemon encountered throughout.

Get them one each and then they can trade.

It's the same game but different main pokemon different normal pokemon an different main people to battle sword give you zacian and shiel give you zamazenta, also you wont look like they do when you catch it because it need to get armour during battle

DH and i have shield (yes we are grown ups that like a bit of Pokemon!), but ideally you want to know if any of their friends are getting it and if so which one so they can get the other and trade version exclusives :) I'm sure they would enjoy either version so it really doesn't matter other than that

It really doesn't matter which you have, anonymous secret quick trading means you can get them all it just takes longer. My family play so we always have both copies for easy trade.
