‘The’ toy of the year

Is this a thing anymore? I remember being a kid and mums fighting over ‘the’ toy if the year to make their child’s year. I’ve seen it a few times over the years with my own (though not daft enough to go out and fight for it) but not really recently.

I know mine are older now so don’t go in for it but is there a ‘toy of the year’ anymore?

No idea. My DD asked for a LOL Omg and kept having to check Smyths and Argos every evening till I spotted it in stock. First time I've had to do this. My SIL had to do something similar for a hatchimal about 3 years ago.

I think it's the toy with the best marketing campaign.
