Wondering if anyone could give some pointers as to what games to buy with a Nintendo Switch. Have bought one for 13 and 11 year olds for Christmas .... now wondering what on Earth they would do on it! Any ideas for a complete novice? Much appreciated xx

Mario cart? Pokemon?

Ginisatonic · 30/11/2019 23:03

Definitely Mario Kart

SylvanianFrenemies · 30/11/2019 23:05

Super Mario Makers 2

TheWoollybacksWife · 30/11/2019 23:16

DS has Mario Kart and has asked for Super Smash Bros or Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Christmas. He has a birthday in January so I'm also considering Luigi's Mansion.

He bought FIFA 19 for switch and said that the playability on that particular game wasn't as good as the PS4 version - I don't know if it's improved for the most recent version.

Mario Kart is the most interactive multi player game my dc have.

They also enjoy Pokémon and Zelda.
(Age 11)

Smash pro was popular for a while as well.

LoveSummerLife · 01/12/2019 13:34

My 10 year old wants Mario Kart 8 and Pokemon Sword, have also bought Mario Odyssey as heard it’s good.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 01/12/2019 13:37

Luigi's mansion is v. Popular also the new Pokémon game in either format.

Soubriquet · 01/12/2019 13:39

Mario kart
Mario party
Yoshi’s crafted world
Mario olympics

All games that can be played singularly or together

Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Shield or Sword. DPs suggestions, he's 33 and loves his Switch. SmileThe yearly pass gives access to all the old Super Nintendo and NES games, think the yearly pass is around £15.

Maxusmaximus · 01/12/2019 18:29

Breath of the Wild (Zelda). I adore it and have spent many happy hours playing.

alliejay81 · 01/12/2019 21:33

Bit random but my DS10 has asked for Goat Simulator. Might be a good one if your lads are daft like mine! You play as a goat and do idiotic things 🤷🏼‍♀️.

user1374384 · 01/12/2019 21:49

What is your budget, how many do you want to get?

I would advise at least one of the more expensive platform games, around the £40 mark because they have much better graphics and longer game play than cheaper ones. Zelda breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Sword/Shield are what I would suggest.

Then with it being a shared gift I'd suggest a multiplayer game like Mario kart or Mario Party maybe? We only have one set of controllers and one child who likes gaming so not sure what else to suggest.

If budget allowed I'd also recommend something creative like Minecraft or Mario Maker that has longer game play value and won't be completed.

Wafflehouse · 01/12/2019 23:01

Alliejay my near 10 year old has been pestering me for this too. If it was really cheap I might consider it but I know it would be taken down to cex before the end of January. 🙄

spiderlight · 01/12/2019 23:03

Splatoon- my 12 year old absolutely loves it.

thenightfury · 01/12/2019 23:04

Mario kart and Mario party definitely. Maybe Pokemon if they like exploration games. Luigis mansion is brilliant too

alliejay81 · 01/12/2019 23:04

I more worry that it wouldn't go to CEX, and I'd be made to play it!! He attempted to teach my FIFA on Saturday Confused

canary1 · 02/12/2019 12:12

Thanks for all these these suggestions! Much appreciated!

I’d suggest Luigi’s mansion (although you need to complete a bit of single player before 2 player is unlocked), super Mario bros, Mario kart potentially but can be very repetitive, Mario and sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, super smash bros, Mario odyssey (although one player has a more significant role in this game when playing multiplayer)

StudentHelp · 02/12/2019 12:16

Mario party, I’d also recommend.
Splatoon, Breath of the wild and Pokemon are also all great but not multiplayer.
Super Mario maker 2 is good but you need the online subscription to get the most from it

Clymene · 02/12/2019 12:18

For kids that age, I'd get Breath of the Wild (single player) and Super Smash Bros (multiplayer) as they seem to be the most popular for long term game play.
