I remember a thread from a few months ago about a good dungeons and dragons starter kit (or something like it) I've had a search but can't find the thread. Recommendations for a good starter kit for a 9year old please.

My 11 year old has recently started to play D&D. I offered him a starter pack/essentials kit but he chose this players handbook instead. He uses a website called D&D beyond for making character sheets and printing blank character sheets.

Veteran DnD player here :) Wizards of the Coast have a DnD Starter Kit (you can find it on Amazon), which is enough to get started with, and includes a short adventure. If your son is going to play, rather than be a DM (Dungeon Master), then the Players Handbook is a good purchase - the other core books are the Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monster Manual. A set of polyhedral dice is an essential too, if playing in person, rather than online. Miniature figurines would probably be better left until your DS knows what he wants - characters don't necessarily last long enough to make buying one now worthwhile, plus you'd need to know what class and race he was intending to play - and this will change from time to time! Let me know if you have any other questions, I've been playing - off and on - since 1978!

Thank you so much for all the help and advice. My husband's also looking forward to playing along with him!!

Dungeons and dragons Dungeon Mayhem is really good for younger players, fast and more portable as it’s just small tokens, dice and cards iirc.
my 13 year old has both this game and the D&D starter kit. The starter kit took a lot of patience as before the game can be played you must create characters , work out their skills etc a couple of his mates lost interest after a while , thats the Fortnite effect for you!
Next time with his dad as dungeon master hopefully game play will be more exciting with less arguments 😂
