So my 17 year old son had mentioned a little while ago that he might treat himself to some Apple AirPods as he'd earned a fair bit in his part time job. Anyway he never did order them, he's a saver really not a spender. So yesterday I decided I'd buy him some for Christmas as there was a good deal which is quite rare on Apple products and because he literally had not mentioned them for weeks I thought he'd decided he couldn't/didn't want to spend that much. So they arrived today. Great, job done. Having tea just now he announces he might treat himself to some as there's a good Black Friday deal!!! I know!!! I suggested they'd be a good idea for a Christmas present but he said "I might just get them now, I can afford it". I know I could just give them to him early but I thought I'd got a great present sorted and now this!!! 🤦‍♀️

Hint very strongly that he shouldn't buy them!

Say to your DS “ it’s a lot of money to spend on one item, why don’t you save the money and wait for the January sales I think your get a better deal then” use your best Mum voice.......

He's 17, he knows Santa isn't real, just joke and say a fat man in a red suit has said not to buy them!

Elle7rose · 29/11/2019 19:51

"Oh Father Christmas dropped these off early for you..." He's 17, he'll probably be happier to get them now than to wait until Christmas!

He sounds like a lovely boy BTW.

Just tell him Santa might be bringing them!! He won't care and can then spend his hard-earned money on something else!

Could I ask what deal it was? Debating between real ones or copies for DD

Herecomethedaffodils · 30/11/2019 00:04

Haha, loving all your comments. Feelingsicknow thank you 😊
I did do the big hinting thing but he didn't really react. However I don't think he's bought them either so maybe the penny has dropped!! Foxinabox I ordered them from Very, they were reduced from £159 to £149 but also on a Buy Now Pay Later deal that means as long as it's paid off within the 6 months, there's no interest to pay. Also they will credit my Very account with £25 in January so essentially they'll have cost me £124 which I can pay over the 6 months. Love paying for things like this!!

Lol my bf is the kind of guy who will buy stuff cos he can afford it and keeps stealing my gift ideas so I basically had to turn around to him and say "don't buy yourself anything this month, I've bought your presents and if you get the same thing I'll be miffed lol"

Floralnomad · 30/11/2019 08:09

We have a rule that nobody is allowed to buy anything for themselves after November 1st to avoid this kind of issue . Just tell him he can’t buy them in case someone else has .
