Elf on the shelf

Thought I'd start a thread so we can all share some ideas

It's our first year of doing this!

We do elf on the shelf but we have the official elf which just is sent to check on the children and moves every night to somewhere else. He sometimes leaves a small gift. Traditionally the elf does not do anything naughty because why would he if sent to check on children's behaviour.

Our elf doesn't check behaviour he just dicks about doing fun stuff Grin

This year I have bought chocolate raisins from studio24 - personalised labels says DC eats elf poo! I have a mini easel and canvas from the works so he can do a picture one night and he will play with the hamma beads/Lego/etc to make various fun things too.

Google for ideas though, there are some great suggestions out ther

Snow angels in icing sugar
Pretending to roast marshmallows over a candle
Putting toilet paper round Christmas tree
Tea party with dolls
Built a house out of duplo

Where's the best place to buy a few accessories?

I saw some in the range but they were quite expensive

Poundland do accessories.

Favourites here are:

Bowling alley with Xmas paper cups
Snowflakes made out of a couple slices of bread from the loaf
Underwear on tree
Movie night with a little bowl of popcorn
Mini marshmallows roasted over a candle
Hiding candy canes around the lounge (always the most looked forward to one)
Graffiting photos (felt tip moustaches drawn on the glass of frame)
Minion faces drawn on a bunch of bananas
Fishing in the fish tank

Don't do it! 🤣
We've been doing the elf for 3 years now, I only do the last 2 weeks though as I find it a bit hard to get ideas otherwise.
We've done underwear on the tree
Our elf gets the Barbie a out & has a party
Plays games with the toys
Reads to the teddies
Snowball fights built up with Lego
Toilet oler all down the stairs & the Christmas tree
Made cookies & left the kitchen covered in flour
Wrapped the kids school bags
He did his own Christmas list with lots of funny things stuff to the paper
Wrapped himself up in Christmas paper & bows
There the ones I can think of at the moment but we've done lots 😂

biggest hit last year was when the elf made a zip slide from the Christmas tree, which was just a piece of red and white twine and we attached the elf with paper clips
she had a movie night where she was found the next morning with a bowl of popcorn and her hand on the remote control
planted tic tacs which grew into candy canes

Weirdly we only started this after my dc stopped believing. I really couldn’t have handled the extra pressure when they were small and I’m in awe of people who do! Dd, who wanted him so much, will probably take over after the first few nights but I have a few ideas listed because I am not creative at 11pm when I’m drifting off and suddenly remember the little bugger.

We have a few Our Generation doll accessories which are a good size for elf props. I also have a Barbie car, a remote control crane, some 12” doll clothes and some eye stickers.

Easy:
Snow angel in flour
eye stickers on fruit in fruit bowl
Hiding in the toilet rolls
Riding the OG horse
Driving in the Barbie car
Sleeping in tissue box
Kissing angel on Christmas tree/ climbing the tree
Rolling down stairs inside a toilet roll
Trapped under a glass
Wrap elf in tinfoil (astronaut) and suspend from planets on ceiling in dc bedroom
Dolls queuing up at ice cream van
toilet tissue cut into snow flakes
Pictures turned upside down
Slumber party with dolls in dd’s fluffy socks
Feeding ducks in bath with bread
Trying on doll clothes in dd’s room
I ❤️U in candy canes
Wrap Christmas tree in toilet paper
Playing twister
Playing X’s and O’s
Tickets to an activity wrapped inside a ball of wool/ or a follow-the-string hunt
Drinking from dd’s water glass (beside her bed) with a straw
Reading a book

Stompythedinosaur · 29/11/2019 21:40

Drawing moustaches on photos (obviously in washable pen on the outside of the glass) has been a popular one here.
In bed in a tissue box.
Sitting in the Christmas tree.
Making a tent out of some fabric and using a sock as a sleeping bag.
Floating on a toy boat in a full bath.
Writing on the bathroom mirror (or in toothpaste on the sink).
Webbed up by a toy Spider-Man (using white string).
Swinging from the light shade.

RuthW · 29/11/2019 21:53

We do it at work. My fav was the time Elfie was snorting coke (sugar!) on the bosses desk.

ploopsie · 30/11/2019 20:21

watching, as I was hoping to avoid this but dc1 is asking about it, so may cave.

HearMeSnore · 30/11/2019 22:17

Ours got the crayons out and drew a reindeer in DD's art book.

Cut out a row of paper elves from folded wrapping paper.

Read Harry Potter to the Sylvanian Families.

Played Dobble with the teddies and dolls.

Got stuck head first in the biscuit barrel.

Got out one of DDs sticker books and covered himself and two teddies in stickers.
