How would you make this decoration?

Ok, I appreciate this makes me sound a bit stupid, but I want to make this (in the photo hopefully) but don’t know what to attach the baubles too. String would look naff (I think? Or maybe you think it would be ok?). Any suggestions please. Also how would you attach it in to the walls either side? Just with a nail or some kind of hook and eye? I’m a bit crap at craft, but dd and I want to make a bit more of a homemade feel this year.

Also, if any one has any other lovely Christmas ideas for craft novices we would love to see your photos!

You could use silver pacel ribbon or if you wanted a more invisible look some sort of clear cord like fishing line string or something?
Small nailed would probably be sufficient

Thin white cotton, on string or wool. If also use thumbtacks to go into the wall if possible, or get those sticky hooks that seem to never come off of walls (not the suction ones)

I would get some silver or gold string, the sort you might wrap a Christmas present with

I also like this. (Not me, found on pinterest)

Gold chain might be nice

Either nylon see through fishing line or pretty thin ribbon to match colours of baubles.

Could tie them to a piece of cane or similar that could sit on curtain rail. Alternatively tie to thin branch and cover it with ivy and holly and hang from fireplace, if you have one.

I would use bakers twine, the stripy string.

Ohyesiam · 19/11/2019 20:54

I do something similar and use black thread.

Elieza · 19/11/2019 21:06

I’ve got see through thread. Looks like fishing line. Use a blob of clear nail varnish on the knot and hold the thread in the knot till the nail varnish dries in about a minute or the line may unravel and the bauble fall off! I’d be tempted to get a Christmas light curtain of strings of vertical hanging lights from a horizontal string (much like the picture) from b&m or somewhere cheap and tie the baubles onto that with the thread so the lights would twinkle through.

Clear plastic string and hooked on a command hook either side

PeanuttyButter · 19/11/2019 21:55

Parents used the old net curtain runners that they attached behind the curtains with the stick on hooks. Then they used fishing line

fairislecable · 19/11/2019 22:40

If you bought net curtain rods it would be really easy to put up and the either fishing line for an invisible hanging or decorative ribbon.
