Outside lights

I am very aware this is a stupid question. However I grew up living in a flat so this was never an issue. I'd love to have a few outside lights at Christmas time, plenty of the neighbors have them but how do you power them? I can't see any obvious cables but obviously don't want to blow the house up. Please take pity on me and tell me the (painfully obvious) way to power outdoor Christmas lights.

Outdoor lights will say on the box that they're suitable for outdoors and they usually have a long thin lead from the plug that's plugged indoors.
The thin wire goes usually out of your doorframe or window and then drapes on a tree outside for example.
Hope that helps.

We've got something like this.

Masterplug Weatherproof Electric Box for Outdoors with Four Socket 10 Metre Extension Lead, 351 x 220 x 126.5 mm, Black www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0062GTL42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uwDYDbDJHPNP2

We plug it into garage and then plug the outdoor lights into extension lead.

Thank you! So it's such a thin wire that it would just pop through the door but the door would close fine around it? That makes so much sense!

Or choose a battery powered set.

Yes! Now you can twinkle everywhere!
The dilemma is which ones are you going to pick?

dementedpixie · 11/11/2019 21:53

We feed the thin cable through the living room window and plug it in indoors

I'm so glad you asked this question! I couldn't figure out how to do it...now I can go get some outdoor lights!

Depends on your specific house set up. Garage, shed, out a window, out a door etc. Buy a outdoor extension lead.

We feed the wire through the letterbox.
