Tablet for 8 year old - Fire HD 10 or Kids edition?

Looking to get DS a new tablet, he will be 8 by the time Christmas comes. He just has a small cheap one at the moment. I was thinking of the Amazon fire but I’m not sure if it’s best to go for the kids version or if he is a bit too old for that?

I really like the Samsung tab a 10.1 2019, it's a fab tablet for the money and can be put on kids mode and buy a case. hold out till black Friday sales. I do like Amazon tablet, but had issues doing things for homework as your locked into Amazon's version of Android. I'm a big techie so hopefully other mmntrs will be along with some advice.

should read I'm NOT a big techie.

Looked into the Kids' version of the Amazon one but as far as I could tell, if parental controls were on then it also stopped the internet browser function. This was not ideal although I can appreciate why that was a feature. It seemed a bit all-or-nothing in terms of what it could do with the Kids' settings. I got a second Fire additional to mine and in my name (older version than the current one). Parental controls now mean that the password has to be entered in order to get new apps or to uninstall them. Save your password somewhere - it's a big issue if you can't remember it and your DC will never forgive you. Also: your music will be accessible on the 2nd one as on the first (so be careful if you have, let's say, Monty Python's The P*nis Song as one of your cheer-up tracks. Yes, I do) , though books or content would need to be downloaded first.

We bought my daughter, at that same age, the Amazon Fire. There was a great deal on Black Friday!
2 years later she still loves it!

We had a kids one and replaced with a normal one when it died when DD was 7. Only difference was it didn't have the cover or insurance. We get the kids unlimited separate.
Make sure you get a model which can take a memory card.

I wouldn't bother with kindle have had so many replaced they dont last well the kids one is great for 5ur old less so An 8/9 yr old we plan to get ds 9yrs a Samsung A10 we have one each ourselves and with an extra memory card are great.
