Stocking fillers

Hadenoughofitall441 · 05/11/2019 18:27

What’s everyone got in terms of stocking fillers, I always feel like I buy expensive stuff for stocking fillers after reading some posts on here.
This is my stocking fillers for DS 11 and dd7. Got a watch each to add aswell

Stocking fillers

reluctantbrit · 05/11/2019 18:44

I don’t do special stocking filler. I grab whatever is small and it ends in the stocking.

Cuddly toys, audio books, T-shirt, make up or bubble bath stuff, small camping equipment. Normally things DD didn’t ask for so the stocking is more a surprise of gifts she would get anyway.

YouFellAsleeep · 05/11/2019 18:46

I always put small, cheaper things in my son’s stocking. He gets things like fidget toys, water bottle, novelty socks and sweets. It’s all low value stuff, the expensive stuff is wrapped up in his main pile of presents.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 05/11/2019 18:54

It’s all within the budget, so I don’t spend over budget, they still get main presents. It’s just I know this is the stuff they will defo ply with

Each stocking present is no more than £3-5 in our house. Anything more expensive is wrapped up under the tree.

Ds will get new colouring pens, a fidget toy, a cheap book and sweets in his stocking.
Dh is more difficult but sweets, small smellies and socks usually

LoonyLunaLoo · 05/11/2019 19:15

From you pictures, I put similar things in except for the switch (?) game which would be wrapped up separately.

Ds (10) has:

Harry Potter socks
A tube of jelly tots (we’ll be in Australia for Christmas so no chocolate from the UK, I might get him some there though)
Real camo cream (he’s a junior sea cadet)
Those pens that you can push up 4 different colours
Metal straws
A moon ball
Squidgy soap
A set of Lynx miniatures
Jelly body wash

I’ve seen on another thread things like trainers and books being mentioned but DS’s stocking isn’t big/ wide enough for those so they’re also separate presents.

I’ve never understood buying loads of cheap plastic tat, beyond a couple of bits that they really want. I always try to include things I know they will like and that will get used, and just one of two really wasteful bits (usually things I would never otherwise buy)

This year, mine both have:
Personalised baking apron
Natural wood crayons
Hotwheels colour changer
Hotwheels monster truck
Pokemon cards
Small mug with hot chocolate stirrer
Pot of slime!

The eldest also has:
Fossil hammer
Periscope
UNO
Minecraft Top Trumps
Cyclometer (cheap one from decathlon)

Younger one has:
Dalmation keyring
Small binoculars
What? (Card game)
Wheel reflectors for bike
(Still need to choose one thing)

Our are having bikes, so other than the stockings, they will only have helmets and books from us.

YouFellAsleeep · 05/11/2019 19:34

My son is 14 and so far has;

A bendy sloth
Card tricks
A penguin screen wipe (kinda like a teddy but has a cloth on its belly for cleaning screens)
A water bottle
Super Mario socks
Foam plane
Parachute man

He likes to get those foam airplanes and a parachute man every year! I’ll also be getting chocolate coins and a tube of fruit pastilles and I’ll probably pick up some more little things. He has ASD so his stuff might appear a bit young. He likes some things to always be the same as previous years and he isn’t really into typical teenage boy things.

GingersAreLush · 05/11/2019 19:45

I don’t buy mine loads of tat for the sake of it as it seems such a waste.

This year they have:
Socks and pants (a tradition in this house)
Pens
Beenie boo
Top trumps cards
Bath bombs
Various sweets
Individual bits suited to their taste (DD has nail polish whereas DS has a roblox blind bag)

I love choosing stocking presents and I buy stuff throughout the year when I see things they will like that are in clearance or on offer

Youseethethingis · 05/11/2019 20:31

I’m with you OP. I have an overall budget which I stick to and whatever can fit goes in the stocking. I wouldn’t buy a lot of cheap crap just to fill the stocking.
I can see why people who leave the stockings at the end of kids beds rather than the fireplace would do it though - you want to jolly well soak in the delighted face as they open a £50 game or whatever!

reluctantbrit · 05/11/2019 20:36

@YouFellAsleeep I love the screenwipe penguine. I am now thinking how to convince DH that we need a Husky in our house...

YouFellAsleeep · 05/11/2019 20:48

@reluctantbrit oh the husky is so cute! Just looked it up! My son is obsessed with penguins so just randomly found the penguin one when looking up penguin stuff on amazon.

Still need to get my girls some more bits and bobs and if anyone has any ideas for a baby that will be 8 months old, please send them my way. Only doing him a stocking as Santa won't forget him according to his siblings.

Lovemusic33 · 05/11/2019 21:55

I have 2 teens and I’m trying to reduce tat this year so stockings will mainly contain food items, underwear and toiletries (bath bombs, lip balm etc..).

Barbarara · 06/11/2019 06:45

I’ve been trying to cut back on plastic tat in general and to use pre-loved plastic toys instead of new. Ds is happy because it has opened up a lot of Lego options that aren’t available in shops. The markers and pens are an eco-fail that slipped through. It’s taking time to fully reset my thinking!

Both are getting:
Chocolate coins
Giant jelly sweet
Bath bomb
Comic
Frixion erasable markers
CMYK pens
Chocolate frogs
Wooden Catapult

DS is also getting: Lego (a selection of interesting individual bricks, some coveted second hand mini figures, second hand light bricks)

Dd is also getting: top model notebook, pencils, OG accessories (second hand bundle), wooden doll clothes hangers(homemade), hair accessories

WalkAwaySugarbear · 06/11/2019 19:06

I'm finding it tough this year as I'm trying to cut down on waste. They have more pens than WH Smith's so no more.
I'm planning for the DDs:
Soaps
Socks
Sweets
Seeds
Gloves

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 06/11/2019 19:11

I usually get

Socks
Pants
T shirt
Bag or purse
Water bottle
Pens or crayons
Notebooks
Perfume/shower gel
Book
Sweets
Tangerine
Chocolate coins

Sometimes I get food they are not usually allowed like Lucky charms or biscoff spread

KTCluck · 06/11/2019 19:15

I’m another one trying to cut down on tat. DD(2) has pens, crayons, some frozen gloves, character knickers and socks, fancy hair clips, and one of those wooden cakes that you can cut up (she’s insistent Santa will bring her a cake). I’ll also buy some bubble bath, chocolate coins and a sticker book.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 06/11/2019 19:28

Trying to avoid anything novelty that will be broken / abandoned by Boxing Day as I'm sick of piles of child tat in the house! Avoiding places Hawkins Bazaar like the plague for that reason....

DS (5) is getting so far:

Packet of Haribo
Socks
2 x pocket 'I-Spy' books
Minions Bubble Bath
Packet of Felt Tips
Hot Wheels car
Christmas cookie
Satsuma

GleamInYourEyes · 06/11/2019 20:09

Mine get:
Character socks and pants
Fun bath stuff eg magic facecloth, bath crayons, foam soap, bath bomb
Figures/collectibles (Happyland, hatchimals, lego minifigures)
Stickers or cards (Pokemon/football)
Comic or magazine
Chocolate coins, satsuma, drink
