Desperately struggling for ideas for ds who is 10 just before Xmas day.

So far I’ve thought of a magnetic white board that looks like a brick wall and a waterproof blue tooth speaker. He can’t seem to think of anything either!

Ooh, watching with interest. I have an almost 10, who just shrugged and said 'more Lego?' when I asked him. He loves Lego and has loads, but there's no set he particularly wants - we just can't think of anything else!
Having said that, we went to the science/space centre, today, and he spent at least an hour playing with Knex there, so I plan to have a look at that. Is 10 maybe too old?
It seems so wasteful, buying stuff just for the sake of it, but he can't just get nothing, can he?

I’ve just added a hot chocolate set and a Lego technic Chevrolet set for £30 to my Amazon basket. He’s not hugely into Lego but enjoys doing the occasional set.

Ds1 is 10 and very geeky. He's getting some funko pop pokemon figures, some tinc stationary that he wants, a fitbit and a joint present of a nintendo switch with his brothers. Possibly a lego set as well because he still loves his lego.

mummyof2boys30 · 02/11/2019 21:13

My boys are 7 and almost 10
10 year old has asked for
A digital watch, plasma ball, fortnite nerf arl gun, and shark spinner skate board.
Hes also getting a bluetooth speaker than takes memory card so we can upload songs onto it, a cheap version of go pro and a ps4 game and ps4 blanket

livingthegoodlife · 02/11/2019 22:05

I have bought my ten year old nephews a chillys water bottle, a beanie hat and the ordnance survey puzzle book.

escapade1234 · 02/11/2019 22:13

I’ve been buying magnetic dart boards for this age group recently. The ones that come in a tube and roll down, you can hang them on the back of a door, wardrobe knob etc

Iggly · 02/11/2019 22:16

Skateboard
Board games
Amazon Echo
Money
Nerf guns
Lego technic
Remote control cars etc
Camera (cheap go pros are great and waterproof)
Wood work kit

Iggly · 02/11/2019 22:17

Books!

theSnuffster · 02/11/2019 22:35

My 10 year old loves the 'Guinness world records' and 'Ripleys believe it or not' books, we get them for him every year. This year he's asked for a hydro flask and new lunch box. Apparently Polaroid cameras are popular. Scooter, pogo stick, dressing gown, slippers.

thegreylady · 03/11/2019 08:40

10 year old grandson has asked for a waffle maker which we have bought.

BearSoFair · 03/11/2019 09:24

Penny skateboard? They seem very in with the 10-14 age group around here judging by the local park! Skate Hut had a sale, not sure if it's still on, but we got one for DS2 last weekend for £50 instead of £80.

He's also getting, from us and grandparents so far:
Engineering construction kit
Meccano Ferrari
New Pokemon switch game (will buy once they come out!)
London Underground lightbox
Star Wars Bloxels
Spurs hoodie

SaveMeBarry · 03/11/2019 09:30

Knex is good and they do some trickier sets so definitely not too young for a 10 year old.
Fitbit or similar fitness tracker band.
Laser tag. Somebody on the bargains thread linked to one at a good price on Amazon yesterday.
Meccano
Boomtrix
This little bot is hilarious.
instant air hockey which we’ve bought for ds. There’s also an instant table tennis we’ve got dd10.

reefedsail · 03/11/2019 09:36

Mine is having:

Nintendo Switch
Surfing lesson
Clothing
Equipment for his sports
Lavalamp
DVD sets
Guiness/ Ripleys

TidaQuel · 03/11/2019 09:49

I’ve a nearly 11 year old DS to buy for and haven’t a clue. He’s asked for a watch and I know he’d love a go pro so would be interested in the cheaper version.
He loves making lego movies so some sort of recording equipment would be good - he uses the iPad at the moment.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/11/2019 10:30

Echo dot and Philips hue colour bulb
Power bank for phone/tablet
Tripod for using phone/tablet to make movies
Cooperative board games like forbidden island
Kindle

Ikeameatballs · 03/11/2019 10:35

Thanks all.

I’ve looked at these www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q2HHS5L/ref=emc_b_5_i?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 today.

He’s said he’d like a new alarm clock, some shin pads and goalkeeper gloves. I’m going to look at the London Underground lightbox too.

It’s so tricky trying to get bday and Xmas presents at the same time!

Mine is getting “more LEGO” Mainly ninjago. He lives the new Ultra Dragon. As well as a digital camera and a new globe that shows the constellations.

He’s also moving up to Scouts from cubs so we’ll get him a new pocket knife.

He’s asked for the new Catan Starfarers board game too. We play Catan a lot here.

We got him a telescope for his 10th birthday and that was a huge hit.
