Inspiration needed so I don't have to resort -yet again to a bottle of nice wine & a book...

Mine is in a care home with advanced dementia. He wont even know what day it is. He cant do anything. Probably some sweets and a jumper.

Iwantacookie · 02/11/2019 20:35

No idea yet. Probably a toblerone but watching with interest

CointreauVersial · 02/11/2019 20:59

I usually get my dad clothes, PJs, books, or something for the garden (an interesting shrub, or a pot). He's really tricky because if he wants something he tends to buy it.

I'm tempted to get him something crafty this year, as he loves things like that. Probably something to embroider (I'm not kidding).

katy1111 · 02/11/2019 21:28

Probably yet another book on birds.

redexpat · 02/11/2019 21:36

I do miss my Dad now he's no longer with us, but I really dont miss having to buy him a present. Good luck everyone! May lightning bolts of inspiration rain down upon you all.

FrankenCat · 02/11/2019 21:47

@dementedma my grandad brought me up, he's also in a care home and has end stage dementia. I'm making him a crocheted blanket.

Hedgyhoggy · 02/11/2019 21:55

Jane McDonald tickets 😁

TattoosCatsAndGin · 02/11/2019 21:58

Whisky. Every. Year.

DP's dad has nothing else he needs/wants, he's older and has pretty much everything on earth.

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 02/11/2019 22:55

I miss my Dad a lot, especially at Christmas 🎄 but by god was he hard to buy for!

Hobbies - you have to encourage new hobbies. Golf was pretty good for needing stuff!

Wizzbangpop · 02/11/2019 23:11

Game of Thrones box set
Something else

Something alcoholic

A few silly stocking fillers

WoWsers16 · 02/11/2019 23:15

Vouchers for one of his favourite food places :)

Wizzbangpop · 02/11/2019 23:15

My parents have just got a new caravan so maybe some sort of accessory for that. He's getting a bbq for his birthday for it

SwingoutSisterSledge · 02/11/2019 23:20

The new Rod Stewart CD that he has asked for and M & S PJ's .

Mine doesn't drink.
Or eat meat.
Trying to cut down on sweets / sugar
Only reads a book once and goes to the library often.
Is really specific about wash products (sensitive skin, sticks to the same products all the time, so not really a treat)
Plays various musical instruments to different standards, but has a tonne of sheet music
Has Spotify
Gets given gardening stuff for his Spring birthday
Has some fairly decent art on his walls but it is really tricky to choose art for other people (especially on a budget, and especially him because he likes stuff that leaves me cold and vv)
Has clubs / groups but nothing that requires additional gifts
Recently had a health thing that means he can't have any adrenaline fuelled adventures - no mud runs, ice swims or caving.
There aren't any sports matches I have in mind to take him to.
Oh and he's a sodding minimalist who wouldn't appreciate anything that could be construed as clutter.
I used to think it was me being a bit shit, but it really isn't.

My Ddad is very difficult to buy for. No idea what to get this year, but last year I got him tickets to the RHS show, and reserved a mobility scooter for him. He loved it.

PrettyPurse · 03/11/2019 08:39

Show tickets at their local theatre

Cinema tickets

cccameron · 03/11/2019 09:53

My dad has asked for one of the family heritage dna tests so I'll be getting him one of those.

FIL always gets a single malt together with another gift usually clothing or books.

duckling84 · 03/11/2019 09:56

Jigsaw puzzle, Turkish delight, Terry's chocolate orange.
Same thing as every year but he loves and appreciates it so I wont change it.

PrettyPurse · 03/11/2019 17:01

Just ordered my inlaws heated fingerless gloves.

Last year got FIL a heated shoulder and neck pad as he suffers with neck pain

Not quite decided but I have been thinking a camera to put in the birdhouse might be quite nice. Pricey though from what I can see.

Sadik · 03/11/2019 17:15

Some great ideas here - just ordered some pasture-fed beef which I know my dad will really like (& can add a bottle of red wine). Outings are also always a good option but I generally save them for his birthday in February when there's less else happening. As others have said 'stuff' isn't a great choice as he's not really that keen on clutter & is lucky to be in a situation where he can buy things he actually wants.

Also tempted by a window bird feeder (RSPB have some nice ones). My dd would also love one of those but with two very athletic cats, a porch and a single storey extension I don't think we have any windows that are genuinely safe!
