Eight gifts on a theme

I have asked this before a few years ago but can't find the thread.

We do Chanukah as well as Christmas - mixed faith household.

Chanukah is eight nights with a small gift each night and I have three kids who will be 9, 7, 4. I like to give them each the same thing each night and I like to theme it if possible. So one year I did all farm animals and they got a different animal each to unwrap and one year it was stationary. So kind of stocking filler type gifts but on a theme. Any suggestions for themes that lend themselves to eight of them? Failing that, I could theme it miscellaneous and do a mish mash of stuff. It actually falls over Christmas this year so the one on Christmas Day I may do a bag of chocolate coins each instead of putting them in the Christmas stocking.

Entertainment themes e.g. Disney, Harry potter?

Chocolate!
A specific animal eg dogs or cats, or whatever pet you have.
Choose a letter of the alphabet, and go with eight things starting with that letter.
Toiletries, so bath bombs, soap, character shampoo, character toothbrushes etc.

8 things to do/activities (maybe ones you have planned anyway)
Stationery
Books

SingaporeSlinky · 21/10/2019 21:40

The word Chanukah has 8 letters, could you use those as the theme? So C could be chocolate etc etc. K for keyring maybe.

fruitypancake · 21/10/2019 21:47

Sports theme - trainer socks, k ring, lucozade, ball, sweat band etc

London theme - magnet, picture, mini model e.g London cab, tube map etc

Winter theme - scarf, hat, gloves, hot choc, fluffy socks, dvd, Hand warmers

You could go with colours of the rainbow theme? A colour per day. The orange day has to be a chocolate orange! You could do sweets for other days too. Quality street does big chocs in different colours. Or not more sweets but other things, red hairband, red mini power ranger etc

Or as someone else suggested go with letters of the alphabet gifts. You can do that every year.

You could go with the word Chanukah for inspiration for letters to use. First gift for all starts with C. Second days gift H. Everyone will be getting umbrellas on day 5!!

Or really mix it up and they each get a different special decoration to decorate the house or tree with, like snazzy baubles. Nice ones arent that dear. That really mixes up Christmas and Chanukah! Perhaps too much?!

Deminism · 21/10/2019 22:41

Oh these are great suggestions thank you.

I am happy to mix them up. I actually found some American Chanukah Christmas tree decorations the other day!

Character toothbrushes? Keyrings? Personalised fridge magnets? You could select a different theme from the Disney franchise or similar, so Lion King toothbrushes etc.

Sniv · 22/10/2019 07:16

I always avoid themed presents, because there's more chance of someone not liking any of their gifts if you misjudge a theme.

BeanBag7 · 22/10/2019 08:55

@Sniv but if OP goes for a broad theme, as suggested here, like colours or words beginning with certain letters, the presents wouldnt all be similar.

BlueEyedFloozy · 22/10/2019 09:26

I love the idea of using CHANUKAH letters as a theme :)

Personally, i'd try to keep it fun but functional rather than buying random stuff.

Craft set (The Works £1)
Hot water bottle
Annual (Poundland)
Nail varnish
Underwear (favourite colour/character?)
Kinder egg
Art supplies (Glitter, Crimp scissors, Glue sticks etc)
Hot chocolate

LuItaliana · 22/10/2019 10:51

Do they like baking? you could do little aprons, mixing spoons, cake cases, sprinkles etc?

Ricekrispie22 · 22/10/2019 17:27

Could you give them a shared present each night? I’d get 8 board games.

DreamingofSunshine · 22/10/2019 20:30

Thanks for this, we are a mixed faith household too and been wondering how to do Chanukah with my 2 yo.

Deminism · 23/10/2019 17:47

@DreamingofSunshine we also have two December birthdays Gin

Oh wow you must need a lot of present ideas! Luckily our birthdays are summer ones so we get a few months to come up with ideas.
