Christmas smelling candles

Can anyone recommend a nice candle or candles? I bought some yankee candles last year but the fragrance didn’t last at all. Really disappointing.

I particularly like cinnamon and pine smelling. Nothing sickly sweet.

I am a cheapskate, I use the ones from Home Bargains at £2.99.....

margotsdevil · 20/10/2019 23:16

I've got one of the M and S ones already (mulled wine - lovely but not massively strong) but I'd recommend a wander through TK Maxx (or homesense if you have one) - I picked up a couple of lovely Christmas scents there today, and they had loads of choice. I got a cinnamon one and a gingerbread one but they also had several different pine/fir ones - they're not my personal favourites but it's worth a look if you like that!

MangoSalsa · 21/10/2019 06:39

The gingerbread one definitely is @lotusbell. I’ve bought a few others, and the christmassy/spicy ones tend to have a good scent, the fruity/floral ones less so. I find that with most candles, tbh, so,not sure if it’s just what I tend to notice.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 21/10/2019 06:57

Tk maxxHomesense. I bought a lovely candy cane one the other day.

lotusbell · 21/10/2019 09:34

Thanks, @MangoSalsa. My experience too. Maybe just because cinnamon, spice, orange, vanilla are naturally quite highly scented. Will definitely look at getting one.

Gingerbread by Can To Candle is gorgeous

TellingBone · 22/10/2019 20:29

I don't have a strong sense of smell so I can't normally get away with the less expensive end of the market. But I read this thread the other day, and today I was passing B&M so I thought I'd try.

What can I say? I got the pack of eight gingerbread wax melts* for...79p. SEVENTY NINE PEE I tells thee. And what a result. Not only can I smell the burner even from outside my living room, but the smell itself is gorgeous. Thank you very much for the recommendation. I also got the apple/cinnamon wax melts to try next.

*Does anyone else struggle not to try and eat them like a bar of chocolate? Blush

Tulipvase · 22/10/2019 21:52

I bought an M&S one recently and it’s rubbish. Doesn’t smell and has tunnelled.

The John Lewis one is twice the price, but smells amazing and burns well.

For a budget one, I like Hogmanay by Shearer and the St Eval candles are good too but a bit more expensive.

lotusbell · 31/10/2019 08:53

@MangoSalsa, was really disappointed with the gingerbread! Received my order from LoveLulayesterday, I'd ordered the Gingerbread and the Chai candles.unwrapped, neither gave off a very strong scent so burned the Gingerbread last night, it didn't my evenly and after 2 hours could barely smell it. Was gutted! Maybe I got a dodgy one Confused

lotusbell · 31/10/2019 08:53

@Tulipvase, have ordered Hogmanay!

Ellabella989 · 31/10/2019 08:57

Lily Flames ‘Festive Cheer’ or ‘Whispered Wish’ ones. Both have an orangey ginger cinnamon clove type smell to them and are nice and strong when lit.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2019 21:31

QVC have a Todays Special Value on Yankee
2xLarge 2xMedium 2x Small as a set (same scent but choice of eight)

I cannot have candles now due to the cats

MangoSalsa · 31/10/2019 22:50

Oh no, @lotusbell! I’ve got a couple this year but havEn’t burned them yet. I hope they haven’t changed them.

milliefiori · 31/10/2019 22:52

White company's pine candle smells fantastic. I didn;t even light it for about a month and it scented the whole house. Then I lit it for about 20 mins a day and the scent lasted. gorgeous but not overpowering. it costs £££ but lasts for ages.
Cheaper ones that also work are M&S orange and cinnamon.

milliefiori · 31/10/2019 22:53

mandarin and cinnamon, not orange.

mathanxiety · 01/11/2019 05:48

Christmassy pine-scented candles almost all remind me of men's room disinfectant Halloween Blush.

I got a little sauce pot with my slow cooker and I use it instead. I add a cinnamon stick, orange peel, dash of vanilla, a few twigs of rosemary, maybe a lemon or some cranberries, cloves, ginger or pine twigs, with some water and set it all to simmer.

duckme · 01/11/2019 06:29

I had my mother in law buy a huge collection of the Wickford and Co Gingerbread candles. They are either from B&M or Home Bargains and the large jar candle is £3.99.

duckme · 01/11/2019 06:30

Oh, maybe I should have read the whole thread! It seems I'm quite Kate to the Gingerbread candle partyGrin

lotusbell · 01/11/2019 08:04

@MangoSalsa, yep the Masala Chai one was also rubbish, I've contacted them to complain. No scent at all and I haven't got a cold or anything so sense of smell not affected. Was really disappointed as they have other scents I wanted to try.

milliefiori · 01/11/2019 08:15

@mathanxiety - I agree but the White Company one is an exception. It doesn't smell of 'pine', it smells of a walk in a pine forest on a fresh, crisp day. Very different scent.

fannyanney · 01/11/2019 08:55

I agree with home bargains gingerbread.
