Is she too old for dolls?

After getting lots of Our generation dolls and sets last year my just turned 7 year old had asked for Barbie this year.

I'm happy to buy her dolls and she's very girly but has anyone got recommendations?
She doesn't want baby type dolls like baby Annabelle but more so barbie. Is there a more fashionable doll or something she won't grow out off? What age do barbies get played with.

I hate the LOL dolls and we have managed to stay away from buying them as it drives me crazy you can't see which ones your getting as a few we have bought she has been gutted she got the wrong one.

She also loves crafts, has lots of bead kits colouring and LOVES making Hama beads. She has a tablet but I would prefer for her to play with toys. She also asked for a mobile but I ruled that out.

To add she has some development delays related to cerebral palsy so I would say she is a very young 7.

Thanks

She also had the Gotz Sarah doll, a large size doll but not a baby, with amazing clothes. Expensive, but phthalate free and very good quality.

Definitely not too old for dolls. Dd is nearly 7 and really likes the Our Generation dolls and the Lottie dolls which are fab. She’s not so keen on barbie although dd4 loves them.

Nieces, age 10 and 11 also love the Our Generation dolls as well as other dolls and lots of other things so I doubt she’ll grow out of them too quickly if she’s asking for them.

I run a primary school after school club, girls up to 9/10 play with the dolls.

What about the Enchantimal dolls? There are so many gorgeous ones to choose from and if she love animals as well then, in my opinion, these are perfect!

PS I don't believe in putting a maximum age limit on any toy. If it makes your child happy, even at 14, then who are we to judge!? They have their whole lives to be adults, just let them be young and innocent for as long as they can x

How about build a bear or a collectible doll. There are some lovely German made dolls about that you can buy outfits for.
Google German dolls I can’t remember brands right now.

my DD is 11 and just gone to secondary school, she has only just put away her our generation type dolls.

Have you heard of American Girl Dolls? My two really loved them, and when they did grow out of them, they sold them, and made more from the sale than they first cost us!

I remember the brand it’s Gotz.
They are beautiful. Have lovely hair that doesn’t matt it can be washed with mild shampoo You can get outfits and colour hair/skin to match your dd. Sometimes you can choose eye colours too. However my dd is a teen now so not been on the website for a few years.

Not sure if they’re still around tbh but when DD was that age she liked Bratz

reluctantbrit · 19/10/2019 16:49

DD played with Barbies until she was around 10, then sometimes when a friend came over who has a younger sister and they still play with dolls at home. Only 1/2 year ago, DD is now 12 we packed all away.

She had baby dolls but preferred her teddies to them. Barbie wise I think she had more Disney Princess dolls than actual Barbies.

Gosh no!
And I kind of want that tent for myself

Sweetpeach3 · 19/10/2019 17:30

I played with them until I was 9, DSD got her last doll at Christmas when she just turned 9 (was the our generation)
My mum still gets me a barbie doll for Christmas till this day (I do keep them bixed for dD though haha)
I'm 23 and I love playing dolls with my little girl and niece. Doing their hair etc. Keep her away from been glued to Pad's an no toys for as long as you can.
Never to old to play with dolls !!!

motortroll · 19/10/2019 17:35

My 11 year old plays in the 6 year olds room all the time as that's where the barbies are!

Lots of kids play with barbies for longer than they'd admit!

7 is just the right age for barbies imo.

mylifenow27 · 19/10/2019 20:48

That's everyone. She has our generation dolls and a few of the sets but they seem to be a bit big and take up so much room in her bedroom she struggles to have more than one of the sets out at a time.

She seems to be excited about barbie and we have chatted about it a few times so looks like that what's Santa's bringing.

Now does anyone have a review of the barbie dream house?
