What's your cheese board essentials?

It's for Christmas Day evening to be served as part of a dessert buffet for about 6 adults

After cheeses, cracker & chutney recommendations

Dh family, I'm happy just with a bit of cheddar so I'm useless!!

Check out ready made boards for inspiration, most are usually with one-two of the main types:
Blue
Yellow hard
With fruit
Soft like Brie or goats with herbs

I’m not a chutney fan, I prefer grapes on the side.

I find the sets sold for cheese boards have pieces of cheese that are too small.

I do:
A decent cheddar
Brie
A blue cheese
A cheese with something in (like wensleydale with cranberries, there's normal a few festive options)
One other cheese that catches my eye, maybe a smoked cheese or goats cheese.

I don't include a camembert because we have baked camembert as a starter.

A hard, a soft and a blue. And a goats cheese. Decent size pieces. Crackers, grapes, chutney or quince paste.

The basic is a hard, a soft, and a blue.
I'd do something like
Ossau-Iraty
Pont L'Evéque or perhaps two or three St Marcellin (nice, as they come in a little dish)
Cropwell Bishop Shropshire Blue, or a good Gorgonzola.

Crackers & bread and grapes and celery.
No cheese with fruit in it here.

Vignotte is delicious

A soft cheese that's been left out so it's runny - Perl Wen
A blue sheep's cheese - Mrs Bell's Blue is delicious
An orange blue cheese - cow's milk - Cropwell Bishop Shropshire blue
A strong cheddar - Snowdonia Black Bomber

Served with a selection of crackers, a quince paste and figs.

Grapes, celery and walnuts and one chutney. We like a mature cheddar, roule, edam, Wensleydale and usually a flavoured cheddar.

We dont like blue cheese, goats cheese or brie but i know some would want these on their board.

Black Bomber is lovely. I really like Wookey Hole too.

M&S, Sainsbo's Taste the Difference and Co-Op all do a 'posh' selection of crackers, which are really nice. And Waitrose have loads of lovely crackers generally.

Stokes Chilli Jam is superb and blooming lovely with Wookey Hole.

I like celery and black grapes, plus Garners pickled shallots and red cabbage.

Carr's crackers for me! Although lidl do some rosemary ones which are lovely as well.

We usually have
Cheddar
Brie or camembert
A blue cheese of some kind, usually Stilton
Either roule or boursin
Plus some other cheese, usually smoked or goats.
Served with cracker selection, grapes and apples. Also caramelised onion chutney with blue cheese is absolute heaven!

I always seem to get cheese boards for Christmas as I love cheese. My family are awesome

Would this be ok?

I'll get the posher cracker selection and 2 types of chutney

Will add grapes & celery to the list too

Think I might need a wooden board too!

It's Christmas so you need an Epoisse!!

What sort of quantity am I after? That pack is 460g, is that enough?

Hard, soft and a goat cheese here. Im allergic to blue cheese - I used to get one anyway for others, but got fed up with them cross contaminating everything with blue cheese crumbs.

Good strong cheddar - Colliers maybe
Tintern cheddar
Smoked cheese

I love cheese so I could carry on with a bit of Boursin, Camembert... crumbly Caerphilly...

Aldi crackers, the buttery herby ones and the long thins like knock off ryvita ones are good.

Port salou for the kids
Black sticks blue
Cornish Brie
Wendleysdale

Crackers
Onion marmalade
Grapes

Epoisse is sooooo yummy. Morrison’s sell this all year round.

Ooh definitely get a wooden board.
Personally, I'd buy the cheeses separately rather than buying a selection box.
Having said that, as selection boxes go - that one is not bad at all.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - I'll give that chilli jam a go. We normally get Habanero Chilli and Mango jam from Patchwork foods.

You will thank me. I'm having to hide it from dp, because he's eating it so quickly!

Personally I'd rather have three bigger pieces, than a pack of little bits.

Although I'd be inclined to get some Applewood and some of those smoked sausage shaped ones, if any kids.

We do

We also use the Aldi crackers that are in a blue box
