A farm for a 3.5 yr old

I am after a farm for my DS. I had wanted one from the younger playmobil range ones ( playmobil 123) but to get a decent range of farm animals seems impossible, as they change what sets are available all the time. Tried eBay too, hurting my brain to buy so many combinations just to get a horse, pig and cow.

I don't want normal Playmobil or Lego as it falls apart and DS gets frustrated over that. So any other suggestions please ? I'm open on budget

If playmobil is no good I would probably go for a wooden farm with schleich or papo animals.

One christmas some years ago when our finances were a bit tighter we made a farm for the dc by painting a piece of MDF, adding a ELC barn and adding some old britains animal figures from my own childhood.

The John Deere kids stuff is great for tractors, combines etc. You can buy big sets. Maybe that and then animals from elsewhere?

Have you considered the playmobil take along farm plus the advent calendar.

That would get you:

1 pig, 1 dog, 2 chickens, 1 cow, 2 deer and 1 cat from the advent calendar and 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 cow, 1 pig and a 1 pigeon from the farm plus people.

Or Papo and Schleich animals with something like the Fold & Go Mini Wooden Barn by Melissa & Doug.

We've had a few wooden farms over the years and have found that like the playmobil sets, little hands can easily taken them apart so definitely check how they are made/if they can be glued.

@Dinosauratemydaffodils Is that the 123 version 6962 ? What code is the calendar.. I do really love the playmobil 123 and it's easy to store away, it's just the few things he has in the older range fall apart.

I'd highly recommend Schleich. It's not cheap but it's fantastic quality. DD has the stables and some other bits, they're so well made and detailed. Plus they do an endless selection of animals so it can be extended.

Yes. The calendar is 9009. It's on Amazon at the moment so currently available from them (brand new). Although I think it's probably last year's calendar as it's not available from the Playmobil website. Although as you say, the way they rotate sets is really annoying.

TK Maxx can be a good place to find bits of the 123 Playmobil if you have one near by. I got my dd the horse drawn carriage from there earlier in the year.

Won't he outgrow the Playmobil one quite quickly?

Love the papo and Schleich animals, but I think maybe I'm too lazy for farms. I just wanted to get one set and be done . I can't decide on the the playmobil, I think he'd use it still until he's at school, and then can be used by the next DC.

Have you looked at the Lanka Kade farm sets? Gorgeous and fair trade. The animals are really big compared to other wooden animals.

Hope the links work but if not it's le toy van barnyard and le toy van farm animal set. Very sturdy and gets played with lots.

Ours have loved Schleich animals with the M&D foldable barn. The barn is very sturdy and the animals are robust and well proportioned.

lookingfortreasure it worked really well for us, and when we later upgraded to some Schleich building (which are fab, but a bit like Playmobil with younger ones), the animals still fitted!
