8 yo dts have asked for a Nintendo for Christmas any advice on what's best?

Switch Lite - they need one each?

Switch original - they share because they are 2 player?

DS - are these now obsolete?

Thank you!

I would get the original switch. We bought one last year before the lite came out, dd said she would only use it as a handheld but now she uses it on the tv with her friends and we have added more controllers. It was more than what I would normally spend but has been worth it.

Depends what they're into. The switch is pretty pricy and the games are pricey too, but it's one of the newer consoles so new releases will be more regular and aimed towards that one. The games I've seen for it do look fun so if you have the money, why not :)

I bought my son a 2ds last year which still gets a lot of play. Cos he likes classic games like sonic, mario and Lego games it works out nicely. There are games you can get from Argos and amazon, and you still get games in game, cex etc. You can play the 3ds games on it too. I've already got 3 new ones put aside for xmas/birthday which would probably cost the same as 1 new game for a switch.

I think there was a post on her about getting a switch from very quite good price. I would go for the original as it’s a great console and then you don’t need to buy 2. Mario Odysey is an amazing game my 7 yr old DS loved it, it can also be played 2 player.

Check what games they want, as all games aren't available on all consoles!

Thanks all. I don't think they even know what games they wan A's have never had a console before, they play apps but not 'proper' games. I'm leaning towards the original switch now.

I would go for the original switch too, or they've just brought out another one which is slightly more expensive but says it has better battery life. Would probably only be worth the extra if you plan on taking it on long car journeys etc.

With the normal one they have the option of handheld or playing on the TV so it's like a 2in1.

The switch lite is a poor effort imo. The original switch will give the best value.

The poster referred to upthread re discount I'm sure had signed up to very and got a £50 off first spend or something similar, it was a brilliant deal, good saving. Check the prices though as very etc can be more expensive initially anyway.

I got my dc a switch last Christmas.

It is fabulous. They have loved it, and (mostly Grin) played and shared well.

The battery life has been fine for us - we generally use it docked anyway. The few times we’ve used it away - holiday etc - the battery has lasted just fine. But then we wouldn’t generally play for more than an hour or so at a time anyway.

I bought an extra set of joycons - there’s 4 of us altogether (me and 3 dc) and we have all played together at times (MarioKart, Carnival games, monopoly)

Games can be pricey, but we have a fair few now, mostly bought on sale/not the headline games but perfectly playable. Watching eg hotukdeals helps, as have had a good few bargains from there eg earlier this year there was an offer on German Amazon meaning some big games (Yoshi, Zelda etc) worked out at about £28 each instead of £45-50 like they normally are over here.
