I have a 12 year old who is obsessed with music but I do not want her to have a device with internet browsing capabilities. She listens to music with Spotify mostly, over an Amazon dot at home with Amazon music too. But I want something she can listen to music to on her walk to school and car journeys.

The Mighty Vibe player would be perfect, if is basically an MP3 player for Spotify unlimited, you can download all Spotify playlists on to it. However, it is tiny and £80. I'm sure it would be quickly lost I feel it is overpriced for what it is.

MP3 players are much better value, but I've just looked at the price of MP3 albums on Amazon and buying several would make a cheap MP3 player an expensive outlet also. How do others build their MP3 library, are there subscriptions available for download? Everyone buy individual albums? Or are most people downloading illegally? I am happy to buy at low cost but reluctant when digital products cost more than physical ones.

I'm having the exact same discussion with my DS. He's 10, obsessed with music but doesn't have a phone. I've been looking at the Spotify player with him being able to have his own Spotify account. Is that what you did in the end? I would be interested to hear how it worked out?

I haven't done anything yet as it's for this Christmas Grin. But from some more research there seems to be websites and apps that will convert your Spotify playlists to MP3 files, so I'm going to have a go at doing that on the computer before I buy anything. Hopefully it works easily and I can just go with the MP3 option. I'll let you know if I manage it.

Brilliant, thanks Smile. I'm not sure I will be able to fend him off that long! He has a lot of money burning a hole in his pocket.

We have sandisk clips, great little players and well priced. No streaming option, you do need to load the mp3 files on via a laptop. We have a combo of bought albums, and existing ones we've ripped to mp3.

Mostly the kids listen to audio books from the library.

@DustyOwl ah, I thought it was for Christmas too since we're on the Christmas topic! If you do go for the Mighty Vibe, bear in mind you need to have a Premium account, not just the free one.

My MP3 player research suggests SanDisk was the best brand of the budget options.
