Reverse advent calendar / gift donations

I originally posted this on the bargain hunting thread so apologies if you’ve already seen this.

I have read in the past that people do reverse advent calendars (of food?) to donate to charities. I would very much like to do one this year and wondered which charities people do them with? Food banks? And do only do food or can give toiletries etc?

Also, I have bought a couple of presents (and hope to buy a couple more) to give to a charity for children that might not otherwise get much. Where would you recommend I do this? Not the shoeboxes, just individual presents.

Thanks to anyone that can advise. And perhaps would be nice to post ideas on this thread and what we have bought Smile

Don’t forget hospital charities. For example St George’s in Tooting has an Amazon wish list of toys and gifts you purchase and are sent directly to the hospital to be given out on Christmas Day. Similarly the Ronald McDonald houses attached to this hospital and others have wish lists of things to help them.
We do both and then I know exactly where my money and items have gone to children and families going through tough times x

And our local women’s shelter may not always be able to take the baby clothes if they haven’t got that age of child needing help but they’re always pleased for sanitary produce, new smellies and also little bits like jewellery and scarves to make the women feel special
