Please let this year be good, JL has lost the plot I just want a good old fashioned nostalgic advert, I don't need a 'message' just something lighthearted to enjoy for a change!

Couldn’t agree more. LOVED the ‘Bear and the Hare’ JL advert and ‘Monty and Mabel’, but since then they haven’t quite hit the mark for me. Used to be so excited about the JL Christmas adverts coming out but have been disappointed more recently. I think JL were sensitive to criticism over them making money from all the advert related merchandise and then there were those people buying up products just to sell on eBay at inflated prices.

It's not officially Christmas until the Coca cola advert is on.

Yes I think John Lewis misjudged the appeal of their advert last year. It was a mistake to use Elton John in that way. It would have worked fine just having him provide the music but not in the premise they chose to go for.

Oh Goddess, I'd forgotten that!
Mind you I HATED the cartoon one with the bear. Reminded me of Watership Down. Traumatised me as a wee one that film. Ugh.

Loveliest Christmas advert ever is the one for Allegro, a Polish ebay-type site.
I blame all shameless weeping anytime I see it on pregnancy hormones.

I always look forward to the Christmas perfume ads - because they're so utterly ludicrous and good for a laugh.

The other day I watched some prog. I must have recorded around last Chr. - all the ads were Christmassy, but the 'best' was a perfume one, though I forget which, 'You can be whatever woman you want to be,' etc., in that breathy, oh so earnest voice.

70s I always thought the same about the Coca Cola ad. We were in America this summer and saw the trucks everywhere and it just didn't feel right Xmas Grin

I also a few Sainsbury's ones - the soldier surprising his family by coming home, the WW1 football one. Oh and the one, Boots possibly (?) where the family do a Christmas in the middle of the night for the mum / wife who's a nurse.

I'm a bugger for ones that make me cry Blush
