What are you getting DH/FIL?

I just have no clue- DH has specified NO CLOTHES Shock

DH and FIL both like the same kind of thing: books (getting them a Waterstones gift card each), gadget type things, Star Wars and tv programmes like Stanger Things etc. FIL is particularly into horror, DH not so much.

Over the last two years, both MIL and I have bought them tickets to things and they've said they would rather get things this year but, upon questioning, don't know what things they would like Hmm

So any recommendations or telling me what you're getting your DH/FIL would be greatly appreciated!

My dh is Star Wars fan and I got him last year a Star Wars Lego set, BB-8. He liked that. He wouldn't buy Lego himself even though he is a Lego fan.
I know he would like to have Lego NASA lunar lander but I hoping the price would come down.

So far for DH the following is purchased or listed :

  • cards against humanity
  • personalised “DHs Nutella Spoon” and label. I’m always slating him for eating Nutella with a spoon, thought he might as well do it in style Grin
  • nice wooden bath tray with slots for iPad and beer. The man likes a bubble bath so might chuck in some posh stuff to go along with this, and some beer
  • on the hunt for new power drill
  • one of those variety tubs of retro kids sweets - he’s a child at heart [santa]

I'm torn between the new portable gas generator hes been eyeballing, and a sea kayak. Either way, he will be excited!

StarStarBright · 20/09/2019 13:04

I tell my DH to buy a gift for his father. Try doing the same. He’s not your parent, so maybe your DH can do some of the brain work of thinking about what his father would like. That may give you an insight into what your DH would like himself.

Having said that, I do buy gifts for MIL/SIL. Primarily because I know more what they’d like and I like them.

Wera Tools Advent Calendar - if they are in any way DIY inclined!

Cherryrainbow · 21/09/2019 19:19

Naff all but a lump of coal cos he's so grumpy Grin I have a few ideas. Some kinda boring stuff like a dual charger for his ps controllers cos atm he can only charge one at a time

DP is getting the new Jamie Oliver book, a gardening book, a travel journal, a few shirts, and theatre tickets (I hope - if I can find anything suitable) - not sure any of this fits your bill, though?

rededucator · 25/09/2019 00:36

Do you and your husband buy separate gifts for his father? If not, why are you the one sorting out the gift? Wife work?

Actaea · 25/09/2019 00:42

Nike came out with a range of Stranger Things merchandise a couple of months ago, you may still be able to get some of it on EBay. I believe Nike still has a few of the hoodies on their website if you’re quick.

You could get a Star Wars cookbook? Or a general geek cookbook with recipes from various sci fi and fantasy.

Do they do any gardening? DH has some fab Japanese gardening stuff from Niwaki which is unusual enough to be cool. Or a bird house with a WiFi camera?

SweetPeaPods · 25/09/2019 09:09

I have ordered FiL a personalised ordnance survey map as they have recently moved house so thought it would be nice for him to explore the new local area

ysmaem · 25/09/2019 14:32

I'm thinking of getting OH a gaming chair.
No idea what I'm getting my DF and FIL. I hate shopping for them. Last year I had something made for them but I can't find anything this year. I actually hate shopping for men

CuteOrangeElephant · 25/09/2019 14:33

A safety razor. You can get lovely proper metal ones.

Sn0tnose · 26/09/2019 22:08

Star Wars Lego (Betrayal at Cloud City) a golf driver (and little golf bits for his stocking, like tees, a golf head, balls etc), lots of clothes, aftershave, a new Amazon Fire tablet, going out boots, slippers, boxers, pyjamas, Lindt chocolates that I’ll promise not to eat, socks, I’m making him a pamper hamper with beard products, bubble bath, foot soaks, face packs etc, a new wallet, headphones, hopefully tickets to see Stereophonics if they aren’t sold out by payday (it’s his birthday in January so I’ll probably turn that into a weekend away) an R2D2 apron (he loves cooking) and a Boba Fett bobble head.

I’ve also got him some little bits for his stocking like a monthly budget book from Paperchase (sounds boring but he will love it), pens & notebooks, fleece insoles for winter, thermal gloves, sweets, etc.

dementedma · 26/09/2019 22:22

No Fil. Dh will get something Everton related and erm, I'm stumped after that. That's all he's interested in. And beer.

DelurkingAJ · 27/09/2019 19:58

Apple Watch has been requested. Done!

AdoraBell · 27/09/2019 20:06

So far I have a fancy bottle of cologne for DH, looking at a not too expensive watch but can’t decide.

Where did you order that map from Sweat please?

FIL will get whatever DH buys for him.

saraclara · 27/09/2019 20:06

My husband bought for his family. Often we'd shop together, but I thought it was important that his parents (who I loved very much) should have presents chosen by him. He didn't stop being their son when he married me.

trilbydoll · 27/09/2019 20:12

DH wants the rest of the Don Winslow trilogy (name escapes me) and James Acaster's book. He will also get pjs, choc orange type bits. FIL is really difficult, generally dh does most of the thinking for his parents, they get a lot of gin!

moobar · 27/09/2019 20:13

Kindle fire?

SerafinaPekkalasbroomstick · 27/09/2019 20:15

Ordnance survey themselves sell the maps.
I'll probably get DH a nice wood handled safety razor. FIL will ask for black socks, guiness and red wine the same as every year Grin.
I just got DH a fire bowl for the garden for his birthday that went down well.

wibbletooth · 29/09/2019 11:03

One thing that has been a successful dh present in the past that is a completely odd present that they will love or loathe but will certainly remember for years is a unicycle.

I got it from a unicycle and juggling shop online around Black Friday so got a decent starter adult unicycle, stand for the unicycle and a how to book for about £60-70. You might want to add elbow or knee protectors or a cushion or helmet... Grin

It was a big thing to wrap and an odd shape so looked a big present. These days there are present bags you can get to make wrapping easier.

If they love it - that’s great. Job done for the year. If they hate it - job also done as you can go back to experiences in the future. GrinGrin
