Cheapest deal for Nintendo Switch?

Ds REALLY wants a Nintendo switch for Christmas. I'm glad he's set on something as I posted a while ago about having no clue so happy to get it.

Does anyone know where the cheapest place is or likely to be? Are there any good times for deals - Black Friday etc? Or do prices stay static?

Many thanks!

My boys would like a switch too. From what I've seen as far as deals go, Smyths toys seem to be very good. I think you get a £30 Nintendo Eshop voucher too. Good luck!

Wait, wait, wait until Black Friday, there are also 2 types of switch out and it’s worth being sure what you get as there is one massive difference. Battery life!
The ones on amazon and elsewhere that have the £30 voucher with the bundle are the old version. I think the packaging shows a hand coming down from the top of the box.
There are others where the box has no hand and the controller shown is blue and red and split apart a little, and over towards the left of the box front. Same price but no voucher. That’s the new one, and has double the battery life of the original.
For something handheld, battery life is everything. Obviously retailers are trying to clear the old stock with the voucher as incentive.
Hold fire for now, there will be deals around Black Friday.

Dd wants one and dh works in the industry, this is why I know 😁

Ooh glad I found this thread as I am clueless and the DC want one. Can you buy extra controllers so more can play at the same time? We have 3 DC and I can see many arguments otherwise!

Chickenitalia · 14/09/2019 21:29

You can buy more controllers but it depends on the game if it will support more than 2. Usually that info will be available if you look at reviews of the game you want.

Thanks for the tip about battery life - will definitely want the better battery so will wait for Black Friday!

Also there is a new version called switch lite - that's basically like the old 3 DS. It's hand held only which means you can't use it as a docked system.

healthylifestylee · 15/09/2019 08:06

You can buy the console and games second hand and that's a fair discount usually

We got a switch when it first came out. So must be the original battery. There is no issue with length of battery life. Kids can play for ages. So just look for the best deal.

Shantotto · 15/09/2019 08:59

Be careful with the two different versions! Yes one has better battery life but it is handheld only! You can’t hook it up to the TV and use it both ways which is the best part of having it in my opinion.

My favourite thing about the switch is I could be playing on the TV in the living room and I want to go to bed I just take it out the dock connected to the TV, slide the controllers back into place and then I just carry on in bed! Amazing!

I got a great deal on Black Friday I can’t remember how much as two years ago but definitely a good saving on full price then.

Shantotto · 15/09/2019 09:03

Oh hang on - there is a version coming with a longer battery life I was just thinking about the switch / switch lite differences. I’m sure when you go to buy it if it’s the better battery life one that’ll be plastered all over the description! You want one with an XKW serial number apparently.

bruffin · 15/09/2019 09:05

Dd got a really good deal on the last black friday /amazon day in june,

Shantotto · 15/09/2019 09:09

Its useful to know about the new battery one as I’m in the market for a second switch for when Animal Crossing comes out - me and DP will be fighting over the one we have if not!

OrchidInTheSun · 15/09/2019 09:57

I've just spoken to my kids and they said they've never had an issue with the battery life on the original one. But I do take a usb charger out with us.

Imustbemad00 · 16/09/2019 00:01

So will any Black Friday deals likely be on the older model one rather than the new one with longer battery life?

ritzbiscuits · 22/09/2019 21:12

So far I've seen Smyths do the latest console + Mario game for £299 (Game are doing the same). You save £20 versus buying the items separately.

I ummmed and ahhhed last year about getting one, and at Black Friday there were no crazy discounts, just an extra £20 off here and there.

ritzbiscuits · 22/09/2019 21:17

PS. I work in tech for a living and would always advocate buying the newest device you can.

In googling the changes, aside from the improved battery, there have been screen improvements, and the antenna have been moved to improve previous connectivity issues.

For those reasons I'd definitely be going for the latest model.

Carrotgirl87 · 22/09/2019 21:19

I got mine free with a phone contract, there are plenty of deals like that if you're due an upgrade in the next few months! X

teatimedreamer · 26/09/2019 22:28
