Filling advent calendar for toddlers

I've been given one of those wooden ones with little boxes for each day. What on Earth do you put in it?! Sweets have to be wrapped ... I'm very unimaginative and at a loss. What do other people do? My son is 3

I did finger puppets one year - very cheap packs are available on Amazon. Another year we did plastic dinosaurs bought as a tub and split up.

I often scoop up unused party bag items for advent calendars, or snip stickers out of unusual magazines.

We do little chocolates - coins or little snowmen etc from Lidl. It’s a bit of a squeeze because we need to fit 4 in and the boxes are tiny. Each box also has a Christmassy joke in it. I printed a sheet off Pinterest and cut them up. The jokes are properly Christmas cracker terrible, but it’s become a nice tradition for us.
I’d do the activity thing, but I’ve found with our kids that it’s hard to plan in advance when will be the right day to do things in December as they tend to get a bit overwhelmed.
