Recommend me a tablet for a 10 year old

Looking for a decent tablet for 10 year old DD to replace her elderly Kindle Fire which has limited memory and capability. Don't want to spend too much and no Apple products, it would need to have parental controls.

Also, is there any non-Apple product that is comparable with an iPod? I'm such a luddite I don't actually know what they do/don't do but DD has been asking for one (and a phone which ain't hapenning yet).

Some general tech advice on both would be appreciated!

the huawei mediapad is a good tablet and has a parent control option. also, in terms of the ipod touch, samsung used to make one but it was discontinued. you could get a monqi phone (phone with samsung display but is designed to be a kids first phone, so you have complete control over it) and then not put a sim card in, or you could get an old phone and again, not insert a sim card
