First Christmas Ideas

DD will be 10 months at Christmas.

I was hoping to get her some memorable first Christmas things from us but I’m stuck for ideas? I know it’s not something she will appreciate for a while.

We are getting her a couple of toys (second hand) and a build a bear teddy but nothing really memorable.

Any ideas?

Maybe a bauble for the tree? You could make it an annual tradition and let her choose something new/with meaning each year as she gets older.

We also got our DS a stocking with his name on, which comes out every year.

We do a Christmas decoration each every year and a lovely book, more classics rather than children's books so they will leave home with a proper library.

Dd was six months old last Christmas and she got The Secret Garden and the collected works of Jules Verne for example.

A Grimms rainbow? Or similar wooden toy that she will gets lots of play out of as she grows up and then can be used as decoration.

Russian dolls? My dm has bought me one every Christmas since birth from all different places.

I made my ds an advent calendar and a stocking for his first Christmas. You Don't have to make one but you can buy lovely personalised ones. I filled his calendar with finger puppets which he loved at the time. You could start a collection of Christmas baubles for your baby.

I'd definitely do a personalised stocking, and you can take a photo of them with it each year.

In terms of presents you don't need to buy too much as they don't know, and in a couple of years they will! As PP said a grimms rainbow or similar is great, or a dolls house or farmyard would be something they can continue to play with as they get older and you can add to it for their birthday?

My DS will be 6 months and I’m getting him a wooden Christmas box, a first Christmas tree bauble and a stocking (all with his name on) These will be coming out every Christmas until he is 50 at least so money well spent I think Grin
I’ve also decided our “thing” is going to be Harry Potter so each year he will be getting the illustrated version of each Harry Potter book. Hopefully the illustrator stays ahead of us, but with the 4th book due out next month i think we will be ok!
I know that between my family and the in-laws we will be inundated with all sorts of baby stuff so I’m trying to stay in my lane and get nice things that will be enjoyed for years to come 🎅🏻

I made DS a big stocking (in hindsight ridiculously big as every year I have to fill it!) out of felt with a big fluffy top with his name embroidered. I sewed on 18 different coloured felt circles, 9 on each side. Every year we take a photo of him on Christmas Day. At the end of the Christmas period, I print the picture, cut it out and glue it to the stocking

DS is 8yo this Christmas and we've nearly filled one side! Amazing how fast time flies. Also amazing how much he has changed! He loves seeing his stocking every year and it's something I definitely keep on top of adding to every year.

Once he's 18 we'll have run out of space, but it will go with him through adulthood and, hopefully, make his own DC giggle if/when he has them.
