What do I buy MIL??

MIL has just turned 50. She likes Chanel, Mulberry etc which I just can't afford. Whenever I ask her (over the years) she says nothing. What do you buy your MIL? She has more bags/clothes/shoes than she'll ever wear so I don't want to get that. Any other ideas are welcomed!

Nothing shes a cow 😂 but when we did talk to her we get her a canvas made of DD, I get my mum perfume or a No7 face gift set from boots when they come out xx

The Chanel handcream. It’s £££ but very nice.

I'd get a chanel perfume or skincare item.
Or I'm sure there's a coffee table type book about Chanel which she might love?

What's your budget?

I’ve done that reckless went down a storm. Very good plan.

Ah thanks @Herocomplex you've just made my day! I was a bit nervous about posting it but I like to buy little luxury things for people that they probably wouldn't buy for themselves so this fits the bill in my mind.

Honestly I would get her nothing. If I tell someone not to get me a present I mean it, I have enough stuff. I guess it depends on your family though? My siblings and friends will happily turn up empty handed to visit each other including for birthdays and Christmas. If we see something that person would like we might get it but we don't go looking - we value time together. Some of us have limited space at home to store gifts.
Martin Lewis (moneysaving expert) writes on the subject of the gift of not giving and I agree with most of what he says.

We did an afternoon tea for 2 experience day for her last year, it went down well

Molton Brown do lovely hand creams for £10, they come with a free gift box and free sample. Makes a lovely gift.

Chanel soap

Tamtam86 · 03/09/2019 17:41

My MIL is similar and likes her designer stuff, I usually buy her either a voucher for a facial or beauty treatment at one of the local beauty salons, or a Decleor gift set, or a perfume but only if it's one I know she likes!

Keep an eye on the bargain thread. There was a great Elemis deal last year that I used for my Mil who likes “nice” things. I have also bought silk lines leather gloves (John Lewis offer), Chanel body oil, a scarf 🤔

cccameron · 03/09/2019 18:12

I'd probably buy some nice skincare. Clarins and ELEMIS have good deals on boxsets near xmas. Or maybe something from L'occitane or a silk scarf or leather gloves.

reckless that silk pillowcase is lovely. Its going on my Christmas list!
