V nearly 7DS has got his heart set on a hover board. Can anyone give any advice of type to get, where is reputable to buy etc. please?

Halfords and argos. I'm sure either lidl or Aldi had some in. Though you will need a large garden or private land as it is now illegal to ride one in public spaces in the uk.

I'd dissuade him since he won't be able to ride it.

Why wouldn't he be able to ride it? Hoping for a good deal on one too

Because they are banned from public roads and pavements in uk. So you can only ride one on your own property.

The law applies to hoverboards and to segways in the UK. So unless you have your own carpark there isn't much point.

The thing to remember is that this is a law which is hundreds of years old and applies to any carriage, so it's been argued that this should/could also apply to scooters, skateboards and rollerskates but it's never been fully clarified whether this is the case.

As long as they are used respectfully and safely, police do not care, they are overworked and following an outdated law is not priority!

However, any accident or incident involving the board on public ground may leave you with a fine.

Electric scooters are currently banned under this law, I meant standard kick scooters were debated

We know about the 'law' issue....we're still getting him one. There are several places where he can use one in a respectful, safe environment.

Are there any brands that I should be looking at? Presuming they're all the same size?

We're also going to get the attachment that turns it into a go-kart- so if anyone has any tips about that would also be useful
