My DD2 will be 1 on boxing day and as we already have Alot of toys I'm thinking

A wooden walker with blocks (assuming she isn't already walking properly)
A first doll
A few puzzles as some of ours are a bit worn
A little tykes seesaw so she can play with her sister
Books

Dd1 enjoys a shape sorter bus and the musical cookie jar at that age and also a sit on toy which DD2 will obviously inherit

Don't go crazy! Too much will be overwhelming anyway plus other people will also be buying.
Keep some money aside for buying things around 18 months as there's quite a developmental leap in that time and come next summer there'll be loads more you want to get!

Of course you want to give your DC Christmas presents but don't feel like there needs to be a mountain of presents to open - plus there will be plenty of years where they give you a list as long as your arm anyway, make the most of them not understanding Grin

All that said, bath toys and shape sorters among favourites for one year olds in my experience. Also Mirrors, cause and effect toys, books.

BakewellGin1 · 23/06/2019 17:37

Thank you Smile I was thinking:
Shape Sorter Cookie Jar
Mickey Mouse Ride On Walker
Stacking Blocks
Bath Toys
Animal Keyboard
Books
Then the ELC Whizz Garage and Cars as will do as he gets a little older too.

DS wants to get him a My First Football toy (yes DS10 is football mad Grin)

Apart from that I just thought few sets of clothes, PJs (would be needed anyway)

Need stocking ideas next ha ha

Dd has just turned 1, anything involving sorting is a huge hit. She also loves crawling around pushing cars so definitely get the ELC Whizz stuff. Our garage has just come out of the cupboard for her (it was also one of ds's favourites). She likes all the Happyland stuff from the ELC actually and her big brother is still playing with it too. The 123 Playmobil stuff has gone down well too. Someone bought ds the Noah's ark for his first birthday and it's been played with a lot (and has led into a proper Playmobil obsession).

For DS first Christmas, we bought him a traditional wooden advent calendar. Also got him toys similar to those you mentioned above but liked the idea of having a keepsake to mark his first Christmas and something he can use/get excited about each December and to make a new family tradition out of.

At 1 mine loved books, and anything with wheels that he could push. He also loved his ball pit, climbing in and out and throwing the balls. He was more like 18mo before he was interested in shape sorters and blocks. Imaginary play with animals and dolls is 2yrs plus imo.

Spam88 · 15/07/2019 14:32

Biggest hits for my 1yo were ball pit, tent and ball popper.

BakewellGin1 · 15/07/2019 21:18

Ohhhh might look at a tent/teepee x

Our one year old love their play tunnel

My DS was 10 months last Christmas so he got stacking cups, That’s Not My.... books, shape sorter, a zebra walker, puzzle, etc. For stocking I got bath toys, Mr Matey bubble bath, toy trumpet, new cup, Ella’s Kitchen snacks and a few other things I can’t remember. I picked up a few Chad Valley toys in August from Sainsbury’s sale. They were just a third of the original price. I think lots of shops have toy sales on around then. Also bought the zebra walker closer to Christmas using my nectar points when they do their Double Up so it didn’t cost me anything. I’m sure the stacking cups & shape sorter were from Aldi’s Baby & Toddler event last summer and they were much cheaper than the same ones that were being sold in the Disney store.

I would get,

Wooden brick trolley (two toys in one and main gift)
Grimm's Wankel
Grimm's friends in cups
Ambi toys bath ducks
Jack in a box
Pull along toy
Galt pop up wooden toy

Just because that is what mine all enjoyed most at that age.

babysharkah · 19/07/2019 23:48

The box it came in and wrapping paper, honestly they don't give a shite at one and will spend hours in the box. Save the other stuff up for through the year when they're bored with what they have.

Abouttime1978 · 20/07/2019 17:16

Seriously, buy one toy.

Whatever you think they'll like, they won't.

They won't want to open a million presents as they won't understand.
If you must spend money, buy things like wooden advent calendar or Christmas Eve boxes, which will be used every year.

And yes, a cardboard box, piece of ribbon and a ping pong ball - all a one year old needs!

Three kids in and I'm finally reining in the Christmas craziness

BakewellGin1 · 20/07/2019 22:30

Thanks everyone Smile I've finished his shopping now and managed to limit myself to a few toys and included sleepsuits and two sets of clothes which he would of needed anyway.

Plenty ideas for if others want to buy presents and a few for his birthday which comes afterwards too.

Now to move onto the easy to buy for but more expensive DS10 Confused

Pretty sure we got ds1 a car he could sit in which had a steering stick at the back. That was massive hit. I also second a ball pit.
