I can't find the fucking scissors. I was using them one second and the next.... gone. I didn't move. I've tidied the whole area away, checked all the presents to feel for scissors inside, nada. WTF. This happens every year and it is INFURIATING.

Sent husband to do the food shopping, he came back with about 1/3 and said he would go out in the morning. Not very happy.

slappinthebass · 23/12/2018 17:45

Ooh shit @Disfordarkchocolate TBF, I was in ASDA this afternoon and after queuing for a basket and grabbing a few things I couldn't get out of there quick enough.I actually couldn't get out of there quickly as I had to queue to leave it was so busy I could actually see the sense in waiting until tomorrow. Often it's a lot less hellish on Christmas Eve, but of course you risk the shelves being half empty.

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/12/2018 17:48

Half empty is what I'm thinking, he'll be queuing outside of Tesco at opening time. I'm having a glass of port soon.

IShitChristmasGlitter · 23/12/2018 17:53

My house is still a fucking tip even after washing drying and putting away about 4 loads of washing including all the fricking beds My dishwasher hasnt gone on today or even emptied so the sink is full of dishes. I still have the floors to mop as well and the bathroom a quick once over Confused

oh and tomorrow I have all the veg to prep and then go to do a night shift....

Its.Only.One.Fucking.Day!

Itsnotalwaysfair · 23/12/2018 22:12

I haven't cleared my office for BIL to sleep in. I just decided that DD 4 does need a stocking but I've nothing to put in it.
I have to get up at 6am to make venison stew and dumplings for lunch (inlaws are here and need a hot lunch at 12.15 daily) and be done by 9.30am so I can run to the shop for said stocking gifts. Must also get eggnog as mil said this is the only booze she'll drink. She managed a schnapps thus evening though. I've decided to just shut door on our grubby bathroom. Luckily guest shower and loo was done by DH.

Itsnotalwaysfair · 23/12/2018 22:13

My DH also didn't buy enough food

bellinibobble · 23/12/2018 22:15

I have also lost my scissors, been a good few days now. I feel your pain 😂

Oysterbabe · 23/12/2018 22:23

I havent wrapped any presents yet. I should prep some veg tomorrow I guess. I hadn't really thought about it 😂

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 23/12/2018 22:25

The house is a tip and we are about 12 hours behind schedule because DP has a severe cold (and in fairness he almost never gets ill and is a champ through it all) and I decided at the last minute that Santa absolutely had to gift a Lego table for ds1 and a train table for ds2 ...that ms Santa is having to construct

The next time I get a good idea just before Christmas i simply need to be stopped ...by all means necessary

(There is now sky blue paint on the carpet and I shall be varnishing the damn table at 5am so it has time to dry before the well planned ..by DP....train track format is glued on)

Why ? Why do I do this to myself every year

Last year it has hand sewn teddies (one lost a leg less than 24 hours later)

Year before it was a patchwork quilt (although that one actually worked by some miracle)

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 23/12/2018 22:26

Have you wrapped the scissors in with a present by mistake?

Littlebird88 · 23/12/2018 22:29

I'm not ready due to a supermarket substituting or having loads of my shopping out of stock.
I honestly just think the picker couldn't be arsed!
e.g. tinfoil turkey tray not available they sent a 4cm x 4cm plastic Tupperware instead.
e.g. stuffing..... apparently the best substitute was Yorkshire pudding mix.... 8 packets !

first world problems I know!

letsdolunch321 · 23/12/2018 22:32

Same thing has happened to me with my debit card, there one minute - gone the next. I have searched most places. Very hacked off, hoping by the morning it will turn up ☹️

glorious · 23/12/2018 22:35

I got a chest infection and have spent two full days in bed. Think the antibiotics are starting to kick in but we've wrapped nothing and we're behind on the cooking. We have 10 for the whole period including various dietary requirements meaning we need two versions of most things.

MrsElf · 23/12/2018 23:42

Ah ha, this used to happen to me A LOT.
Now I have at least 6 pairs of paper scissors in the house, and more sellotape than the elves do.

PS this afternoon I was wrapping with the kitchen chicken shear thingys.

slappinthebass · 24/12/2018 00:36

@IShitChristmasGlitter I've had a bad habit of holding back the Christmas prep/wrapping etc until the house is spotless but this year I've tried the other way round and feeling much less stressful. Only got cleaning to do tomorrow now.
@Itsnotalwaysfair oh fuck that. Don't put yourself out for high maintenance IL's too much. Scrambled egg on toast for lunch if they insist on being so regimented? And do you have a Wilko locally? Fantastic for stocking fillers all under one roof.
@Gettingbackonmyfeet you've made the train and Lego tables yourself?! We went to Thomas Land recently and DH keeps exclaiming we should glue DC's train track to the train table like he is some kind of genius. I've only been suggesting it for years. I do like making up track though and changing the add on bits we have so I'm unsure. Might just try blue-tack but I suspect toddler DC would just see it as a challenge and rip it off more quickly than usual.

I'm glad there are fellow scissor losers out there who feel my pain. I found them in the end, under a bag a few feet away I don't remember moving. Now I've almost finished wrapping but the sellotape is looking extremely thin in the roll!

I suspect objects disappear off into a different dimension. I haven’t worked out all the details but as far as I can tell single socks and teaspoons can stay there permanently while scissors and pens only go for a short while. Wire coat hangers, on the other hand, seem to be drawn into our reality from multiple dimensions.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 24/12/2018 06:09

Because despite our best intentions yesterday, DP and I sat down to watch the football and then ended up making dens with the kids instead of getting organised.

I’ve been up since 3.30, can’t get back to sleep and am wondering if it’s too early to start Xmas Grin

SilverDoe · 24/12/2018 06:24

Arghhh I’m up early too worrying about all the stuff left to do!

Have a load of dishes to do as spent yesterday evening cleaning the oven and couldn’t be bothered to do that too. Have kids room to tidy, bed sheets to wash change and more clothes need to go through. Also still have some presents to wrap and have lost the cello tape so couldn’t get started last night Blush

ALSO have to go out this morning to get a few last minute bits which can’t be out of til later as I have to get this and everything else done by 3pm as we are visiting family.

Oh gosh! Duck it, I’m getting up and going right now.

WardrobeInCrisis · 24/12/2018 06:29

I have just moved house, almost everything is still in boxes, nothing fits into the kitchen cupboards, everyone has foul colds and feel very ill.

Not ready at all!

mumeeee · 24/12/2018 09:43

I'm working a lone shift today.supporting 3 adults with Learning Disabilities.Started at 9am finish 9am tomorrow ( sleeping in).
Did wrapping yesterday but didn't get round to hoovering left it to my youngest DD ( whose home for Christmas and DH now

drspouse · 24/12/2018 09:48

My sewing machine broke and I hadn't finished the bits to go in the DCs stockings.
I borrowed my friend's machine but only finished that last night so I'm sitting in a cafe hand finishing.

Ticcinalong · 24/12/2018 09:49

My friend came round for a mince pie and present swap last night...3 bottles of Prosecco later she left at 1am and my head hurts and I have no idea how to Christmas Eve any more Xmas GrinXmas Blush

slappinthebass · 24/12/2018 10:15

@Alanamackree This is one of my DC's current sock drawer. There has to be ONE of every single pair there. I don't know where on earth all the others are hiding.
