Anyone ever forgotten to put stockings out?

I never have, never would... but every year, I am tormented by the fear that I might. Imagining the hurt and confusion on DS's face, closely followed by having to reveal on Christmas day that there is no Santa, just us, and we forgot SadSad Hate it!

One Christmas Eve we had friends around and we got a bit pissed. I then fell asleep putting the children to bed and woke up in a blind panic at about 2am. It was absolutely awful and I felt so guilty. Never ever got tipsy at Christmas since.

(Very important) correction. Never got tipsy on Christmas EVE since.

Last year we had a lot on and were staying at MIL’s Christmas eve, and she made stockings for all of us including new baby.

We then realised MIL didn’t have one, so she raced round the house making one up of household stuff.

This year I’ve gone all out for her and made sure she has an amazing stocking.

Possibly not what you meant, but she’s such an utter sweetheart I really enjoyed myself putting the stocking together for her. & DP insisted on putting in a can of baked beans (apparently it’s tradition, dating back from a year when MIL forgot to do stockings for DP & SIL & they ended up with things from the pantry as stocking fillers).

SIL raced around putting together a stocking for MIL

No, but every year I have a nightmare that this happens, in my nightmare I've never wrapped a thing . @NashvilleQueen what did you have left to do at 2am?! This is totally something that could happen to me.

CookieSwirlC · 23/12/2018 07:54

Think it was last year or the year before so dd was 3 or 4, we decided as she woke in the night occasionally still that we would leave her stocking in our room in case she woke up at 2am and got up. Only we forgot to tell her.

Que a crying child at 6am because Santa had forgotten to deliver her stocking. I felt awful. Never again.

22Giraffes · 23/12/2018 08:17

Yes and it still makes me feel awful. DD was 4 and DS 6 months old, I was so tired with having a baby and waiting for dd to fall asleep properly that I was the one who fell asleep first. Come the morning dd is of course crying and so while dp comforts her i had to race in and shove the stocking at the end of her bed under her blankets and pretend it was hidden and she hasn't noticed it! Sad she believed us luckily but still makes me so sad!

No but the tooth fairy has failed to appear at least 3 times in my house so I have form for this type of thing...

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 23/12/2018 08:29

We find that the more whisky consumed by us on Christmas Eve in our house the more generous Santa appears to be in the stocking filling dept ! He even put money in last year ! And he raided the fruit bowl ! And put car keys in? ( thankfully we each got our own - or that would be a whole other thread!)
I think he's a splendid chap! I hope he's as generous this year!

One year I foolishly agreed to dhs family suggestion of having the sacks downstairs- cue crying hysterical child that he hadn’t been because she’d been so naughty. She hadn’t. Dh realised his error & normal service was resumed the following year. He has also forgotten the tooth fairy several times. I never forgot Halo

SimplyPut · 23/12/2018 10:33

No but I do have nightmares about it every December!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/12/2018 14:58

22Giraffes Xmas Sad Glad you managed to fix it last minute.

I haven't yet forgotten the tooth fairy, though DS has only lost 2 at the ripe old age of 7, so I haven't had much chance.

@frazzledasarock your MIL sounds lovely 😊 I’ve had more fun putting my DC’s stockings together this year.

Tooth Fairy has also forgotten a few times here, only to find a letter to say it needed an extra clean before she could take it away!
