I would like crusty bread for the soup starter. If I buy it Sunday when my online shop comes it will be stale by tuesday. Any ideas?

Buy part baked ones?

Buy a bag of wholemeal or plain flour, some bicarb and plain yoghurt (or milk and a tablespoon of lemon juice) and make soda bread - delicious fresh from the oven with soup.

Oh, and no rising/proving/kneading time - no ones batshit enough to think you should be making that kind of bread on Christmas day Grin

This works brilliantly: www.thelondoner.me/2012/06/no-knead-crusty-bread.html

Part baked ciabatta is delicious
or what about freezing a crusty loaf - maybe thick slice it first , then defrost and warm it

I always freeze bread / bread products and never have an issue. I toast straight from frozen. Order it & stick it in the freezer.
