Planning on doing the food shop for Christmas tomorrow morning! I’m hosting for 8. I’m 35 weeks pregnant and super stressed, trying to write a list but cannot get my thoughts straight... what do I need to remember??

What have you on the list so far?

Reaa · 21/12/2018 18:24

Crackers

Reaa · 21/12/2018 18:24

As in, pulling crackers and cheese biscuit crackers.

Alanamackree · 21/12/2018 18:33

Ok
Start by listing meals:
Christmas dinner...starter...dessert...
Christmas breakfast?
Christmas tea/supper?
Drinks
Christmas Eve lunch and dinner

Write out menu and against each item put its ingredients
eg stuffing -bread crumb, herbs, sausage meat, etc
This will help you remember to buy several of the same ingredient if needed.

Now when that’s done run through the invisible things like salt, pepper, oil, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, butter

And then stuff like kitchen roll, tin foil, dish detergent, cleaning spray, toilet paper, soap.

Oh and write down how big a turkey you want to buy and if buying other meat what weight/cut you want. I have form for getting dazzled and coming home with something completely unsuitable.

You don’t want to risk having to think in a supermarket at Christmas!!!

We always forget stuffing

73kittycat73 · 21/12/2018 19:19

I think Alanamackree has got it spot on there. Just had to post though to say don 't forget the gravy! Xmas Smile

Katef44 · 21/12/2018 19:23

Got to remember the pigs in blankets

ps1991 · 21/12/2018 19:24

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!! I have stuffing. I’ve got most of the cupboard bits already (I hope) just fresh bits that I need. DH is on turkey collection Christmas Eve from m&s!

Have you got enough cutlery , crockery , glasses ?
Chairs?

Binbags, washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets
Foil dishes for leftovers

Sharp knife (I'm vegetarian and didn't have a carving knife . The turkey -for family- looked a tad scruffy)

More roast potatoes than you think you need
Mash (my DD likes mash&roast)

Paper towels to drain food

Ice

ps1991 · 21/12/2018 20:11

Ice is a good one thanks!! So is kitchen roll!! Ohh and napkins aghhh, baby brain does not mix with Christmas planning!!

Why are you shopping for 8 and hosting 8 when you are so pregnant?

How many meals and for how many people are you catering?

Are some of them only there for the day?

Why not set aside 10 minutes to write your own list? It honestly won't take longer than that. Don't get distracted, just do it. Then copy and paste it here and ask Mnetters to fill in the gaps.

You'll feel better if you make yourself calm down and get on top of your thoughts.

ps1991 · 22/12/2018 16:19

My family live about 2 hours away so it’s easier for them to travel here than me to go two hours away! And my in laws are currently renovating so don’t have a kitchen!!! Months ago when we originally decided what was happening I didn’t realise how pregnant I would feel 😂 I think I have it all down now! Going to shop tomorrow then I still have an extra day if I’ve forgotten anything,
