Excessive?

OK now I'm really sorry if this has already been started as a thread (and if so I will quietly subside) but I can't see it anywhere. It's an article about a mum who has stockpiled literally hundreds of gifts for her three kids at Xmas. For so many reasons WHY would you do this? Would any of you do this? *Extra treat. She refers to them as 'crotch demons'. Obviously an Aussie term but EWWWW

There’s one of these every year. What a pile of toot.

ShadyLady53 · 18/12/2018 09:40

I genuinely wonder what it is she’s trying to make up for or what she’s trying to prove.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 18/12/2018 09:41

So say an average of 3 hours a day playing with toys comes to 1085 hours a year. If each child is getting a hundred toys the average playing time will be around 10 hours per toy. If the average cost is AuD20 that's AUD2/hour.

However I reckon playing time will not be evenly spread resulting in some toys barely being used.

So yes, excessive

GobblersKnob · 18/12/2018 09:54

It's a fair bit bit it's not a shocking amount for three children. Bit mountain molehill really. And 'crotch demons' has made my day, stealing that.

doodledott · 18/12/2018 09:59

I actually think it's unfairly overwhelming to buy children that much. My ds is 1 and has a fair haul but we don't want him to grow up thinking Christmas is just about presents so we've put a limit on what grandparents etc get him.

MutedUser · 18/12/2018 10:01

Can’t get worked up about it to be honest . Its her money her children. Sounds like she is posting all online for attention and we are discussing her now .

DonaldDucksTowel · 18/12/2018 10:03

They’ll just get bored of opening that and wonder when the pile will end
What a waste of money

MiseryLoves · 18/12/2018 10:07

Lucky kids. I bet they’ll have lots of fun opening those!

BrieAndChilli · 18/12/2018 10:14

it will just become a production line for those kids with them just ripping open the paper and throwing the present to the side and yelling next!
mine dont get anywhere near as much as that and it still feels like sometimes they arent really appreciating all that they get.

LovingLola · 18/12/2018 10:18

In a couple of generations time the planet will have died under the weight of rubbish we have produced. She is only speeding up that process.

Auntiepatricia · 18/12/2018 10:19

It’s so pointless and pretty disgusting. But we just consume and consume and consume. That’s what people do these days.

MutedUser · 18/12/2018 10:31

So what would people propose a five gift limit for children enforced by the law ? Some buy more some buy less can’t blame her for the state of the planet. Obviously this is not the norm of it wouldn’t be getting reported in the papers .

LovingLola · 18/12/2018 10:58

I would propose that people take responsibility for the way they live their lives and the way they expend finite resources. But you can't cure stupid unfortunately.

Auntiepatricia · 18/12/2018 11:00

What LovingLola said.

HairyToity · 18/12/2018 11:12

I love the idea of a limit to presents from Santa imposed by law. Personally I think more than 10 presents per child is ridiculous.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 18/12/2018 12:18

Reading various other threads it's probably not a ridiculous amount of money to spend on 3 kids (would be in our house but each to their own), but the volume is ridiculous and overwhelming. The amount of time she spent buying and wrapping them would have been better spent playing with the children

Arrowfanatic · 18/12/2018 17:54

I'm mostly amazed that she has 14 cupboards to store it all in.

Mrskeats · 18/12/2018 17:58

Ridiculous. Knew her picture would have bunny ears or some rubbish.

Girlicorne · 18/12/2018 18:15

I can't get worked up about it to be fair, it's not an excessive amount of money, its £565 each or thereabouts. I ve seen people say they spend more on threads on here. Her kids will love it, everyone does Christmas differently!

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 18:16

Anyone who parades their purchases for their children in order to get attention is a massive, massive twat.

akmum18 · 18/12/2018 18:23

Her choice really but such a waste of money there’s no way her children will get full use out of everything before they outgrow them. Hopefully she’s raising them to be respectful and grateful though.

Sailinghappy · 18/12/2018 18:30

It doesn’t look crazy excessive to me - we also do lots and lots of presents for dc at Christmas! She absolutely loves her toys - and really enjoys ripping them all open in a frenzy Christmas morning. They are all chosen, paid for and wrapped by me and it’s my absolute pleasure to do it for her - why would anyone else have any issues with that?! As for social media, I most probably will share a photo of her in her special Christmas dress/ opening a present but I never take photos or videos of “the haul” as such... so I can’t see why anyone would even be aware of what I buy her unless they popped round on the day. Live and let live.

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 18/12/2018 18:39

Jesus that is a lot of stuff

I dunno, it's her money so whatevs but it's a lot really isn't it

I've gone the other way this year-have a 4 year old and a 1 year old so still able to contain things. Mine are both getting one 'main' gift each, plus a lovely book (which can be their presents from each other!) then a stocking each with a chocolate santa, few sweeties, and a few small gifts-bubbles, balls, snap, that sort of thing

Now I'm worried I've totally underdone it 😐
