Is there a better alternative to build a bear?

Well it depends on what you want.

If you want the child to make the toy themselves then no I don't think there is anywhere else you can do that sort of experience.

If you want to give them a premade bear and clothes then I would still choose build a bear but purchase it from Ebay or off local selling pages.

People often sell it off in huge bundles for much less money and it holds its value second hand much better than any equivalent so you can sell it again after it has been played with.
