How can I make this present better?

DH says he wants nothing. Last year we got each other nothing and he said it was "a bit crap" having nothing to open.
The truth is he can't be bothered to do the same for me I think. I said £20 limit and basically told him what to get me.

So far for him I have got him a cool towel for the gym, some novelty socks (because I am sick of him complaining he can't find any!) and a funny book which has turned out to be a bit shit.
He hates tat, doesn't like books (the one I got was an "in" joke), is eating healthy and not drinking alcohol.
Any idea of something I can get him for £5?

Chocolate to go with the book

TailEndCharlie · 13/12/2018 09:23

a speed skipping rope.... one that you can do double unders with... very popular in crossfit circles. new gym t shirt? mancave shower gel? a pack of gel energy things? a new protein bar to try? a cookery book aimed at healthy eating men? Like Gordon Ramseys Ultimate Fit Food for 8.99?

Oh and buy yourself a stocking and say cos it is makeup etc you know he couldn't do it..!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/12/2018 11:59

A shower gel/deo set to go with the towel? Tesco had a lot half price last time I was in

dancemom · 13/12/2018 12:02

Resistance band? gym gloves?

Frosty66611 · 13/12/2018 12:06

Healthy recipe book (The Body Coach has good ones with easy recipes)
Gift card for cinema or his favourite restaurant
Good headphones for the gym
A nice lunchbox/container thing he can take prepped meals to work in
Dvd boxset
Foam roller/massager thing for sore muscles after working out

PinkHeart5914 · 13/12/2018 12:06

A skipping rope? You can strangle the miserable sod with it as a gift to yourself?

GreenKangaroo · 13/12/2018 12:09

He hates tat, doesn't like books (the one I got was an "in" joke), is eating healthy and not drinking alcohol.

So you got him a book and novelty socks- both tat.

Can you return them all and start again?

Get 1 gift- not lots of little stuff.

hidinginthenightgarden · 13/12/2018 13:48

Some great ideas ladies thanks.

An orange and a stick? That's what my DH claims he got every year when young. One is healthy eating, the other he can flagellate himself with.

BusterGonad · 13/12/2018 13:53

I agree if he hates tat then I'm not sure a novelty book and socks is the way to go!

Confusedbeetle · 13/12/2018 14:05

How to spend for spendings sake! How is it a bit crap not to be opening a present?

GreenKangaroo · 13/12/2018 14:42

How are socks tat?

They are novelty socks- about as tat as it gets.

hidinginthenightgarden · 13/12/2018 14:45

Confused- no one else buys us anything so if we don’t buy for each other we get no gifts at all.
I am trying not to spend for spending sake that’s why I am asking for help! The socks will be worn. When I say novelty- it’s just some bright socks with monkeys and bananas on. He is constantly saying he can’t find any socks so this will help!
The book I am disappointed in. It is called shag yourself slim. As we are on a health kick, and not getting much sex, I thought this would be a good laugh. It is shit though so I am not counting that!
I am going to get him some resistance bands I think as he says he feels like a tit using weights.
To me Christmas is a way of showing love and appreciation so I enjoy searching for things he will want but he is very difficult now he doesn’t drink!

How about some protein bars?

Noopey · 13/12/2018 16:14

Big fan of flavoured oils in this house. M&S do great chilli/garlic/basil ones.

Noopey · 13/12/2018 16:16

Or you can buy the grinch some poo Wink

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/12/2018 16:19

Heallth kick related stuff then
foam roller
slightly nicer than usual shower gel
gym t-shirt
good earbuds for using whilst exercising
voucher for a massage or turkish bath

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 14/12/2018 08:06

What about an experience rather than 'stuff'? I've got my DH tickets to see a stand up comedian he really likes. You could do vouchers for golf, cinema, cookery class, hot air balloon ride, driving day, flying lesson etc. depending on budget.
